For over a year, Roman Reigns has been working in the WWE on a part-time schedule which some of the WWE fans may not like especially after how he’s hijacked the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. However, it doesn’t really matter to the WWE given he’s a marquee superstar in the company whose presence promises box office success for the company.
Since debuting in the WWE in 2012, Roman Reigns worked like a true workhorse and earned this part-timer status to just elevate himself to a new level. We have not seen The Tribal Chief since the Raw after Wrestlemania 39 episode but now we do know when he will be back, next on TV. Fans and his potential opponents were eagerly waiting for his appearances and that’s not been further stretched.

Paul Heyman announced Roman Reigns’ return
During the latest episode of WWE Raw, Paul Heyman came out to cut a promo. With the microphone in hand, the Special Counsel confirmed that Roman Reigns will be back on SmackDown, this week. Nothing more was stated about what he will do on SmackDown. But obviously, he will have to focus on The Usos after they have lost the opportunity to win back the tag team titles.

Roman Reigns expected to compete at Night of Champions 2023
Meanwhile, this week’s episode of Smackdown will serve as the go-home episode before Backlash, an event that Roman Reigns is not booked to perform on. This is the reason why the general belief was that the undisputed champion will not return on TV until next week’s blue brand episode. But Heyman confirmed that the return was eventually preponed.
While nothing is confirmed, Roman Reigns is expected to put his title on the line at the upcoming Night of Champions premium live event while no such hint about his next challenger has been revealed on WWE TV, yet. It is also unclear at this point whether he will continue carrying two championships on his shoulder, with the new World Heavyweight Title being reintroduced on Raw.
Only time will tell how the situation will play out when Smackdown airs this Friday night. Roman Reigns last defended his undisputed title against Cody Rhodes at Wrestlemania 39 Night Two main event. He was the overall first-draft pick by Smackdown during Draft 2023 Night One.
