WWE Superstar The Rock won’t be featuring in the Fast 10 or 11 and neither did he make appearances in the ninth installment. But fans are still hoping to get a sequel to the Hobbs & Shaw which is a critically acclaimed spin-off from the Fast series. That is not an impossibility given the preliminary ideas are set, but it’s nowhere near to be going to the floor.

While speaking to Collider, producer of Hobbs & Shaw Hiram Garcia shared an update on the second installment of the film. The movie is still in its planning stages and we can definitely expect it to become a reality. Furthermore, the studio keeps urgently asking for updates “ASAP!” with the project, and hence The Rock could definitely be back with his friend-turned-foe Jason Statham.

The Rock could portray Luke Hobbs character again

Check out the below comments from Garcia where he confirmed that The Rock volunteered not to come back for any of the Fast films. But that doesn’t mean that the filmmakers are giving up on his Luke Hobbs character, so easily. His absence from the Fast series won’t hamper the second edition of Hobbs & Shaw.

“After filming Fast 8, [Dwayne Johnson] made the clear decision to close the Fast & Furious chapter for all the evident reasons. He wished them all well and shifted our focus to other storytelling avenues. So while he will not be in F10 or F11, that won’t in any way interfere with our Hobbs plans.

Obviously, all these characters exist in the Fast universe and we love to see all aspects of that universe thrive and succeed. We just have specific plans for what we want to do with the Hobbs character and I think the fans are going to love it! We’re working to deliver something very unique and fresh and we know the studio is eager for us to get into it ASAP!”

WWE Star The Rock Isn’t Done With The Hobbs & Shaw Franchise 2

With Disney’s Jungle Cruise released in the USA, almost at the same time as Fast 9, The Rock was in full promotion mode as he was hyping up the adventure film. However, despite the excitement around the movie, the megastar has faced several questions about his future in the Fast and the Furious franchise. It’s believed that the infamous beef with several of the main stars of the franchise led to the absence from F9 and it will continue to in the future.
