It was expected that we will receive a United States Championship match at the Backlash PPV event. Randy Orton already earned the rights to face Jeff Hardy for the United States (US) Championship, three weeks ago.

But, the match was not confirmed since Jeff was already scheduled for a match against Jinder Mahal at Greatest Royal Rumble event.

On that night, the younger Hardy successfully retain his US Championship and turned his focus fully to Smackdown Live.

After what transpired on this week’s edition of the show, it was only a matter of time that he’d be booked for another title match at Backlash.

WWE.com confirmed that it’s happening.

Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton teamed up against Shelton Benjamin and The Miz in a tag match. The babyfaces won the match, quite expectedly. But then again, you never know when the Viper would strike. He was ready to hit a picture perfect RKO on Jeff to deliver a major statement.

Following this, WWE’s official website confirmed that Hardy and Orton is happening for the United States Championship at Backlash PPV.

This is going to be the fifth title match for the dual brand PPV event on the WWE Network. Check out the official announcement,

It is needless to say, that both of them are future Hall of Famers will stop at nothing over the battle for the prestigious title present on Smackdown.

Plus, at Backlash PPV it will be a battle between two of the Grand Slam Champions of the WWE.

Plus, Orton and Jeff are no strangers to each other. Over the course of the last decade, these two veterans had previous meetings.

Jeff had always been the crowd favorite whereas Orton was the bonafide heel.

For now, both of the mare the babyfaces which make the situation interesting. It will be interesting to see whom the WWE officials decide to be the winner.
