As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, WWE Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits had a confrontation with SmackDown Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura. This happened Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins defeated Andrade & Angel Garza in a non-title Tag Team match to set up a big match for next week.
It was noted how Brand Invitational was returning to WWE programming starting for this week. The quarterly tradition will now be bringing a Champions vs Champions match on Raw. The Raw Tag Team Champions will go up against the SmackDown Tag Team Champions in a non-title bout. Behind this big news, another not-so-good planning is also there.

WWE To Unify Raw-Smackdown Tag Team Division & Championships
Twitter user BeltFanDan, who has broken several news stories in the past, has noted that there have been talks of unifying the WWE Tag Team divisions on RAW and SmackDown, along with the Titles for both brands. Perhaps a new WWE Tag Team designed belts could be introduced in the near future like it used to be in the past. More details could be coming during this upcoming match on Raw.

The user also noted on the ongoing rumor of WWE probably debuting a new WWE Title at Clash Of Champions 2020. He stated that there isn’t any talk of a new WWE Championship design making way to the programming at the upcoming PPV,
“Only thing floating around recently, is deciding to unify the branded tag belts. No clue where this ‘new WWE Championship belt’ at Clash of Champions rumor started.”
WWE used to have only a pair of tag team belts, originally which was doubled after WCW’s acquisition as the world tag team belts also got mixed to the equation. The belts were merged during the beginning of the last decade and it continued until 2016 when the Brand Extension Draft occurred causing Raw and SmackDown rosters to get separated.
From then onwards, Raw got its own tag team division whereas SmackDown also introduced a new pair of belts. WWE actually focused on this division to bring out newer tag teams. But in recent years, the company’s creative booking around the tag division got worsened and the critics bashed the company over this. It’s a fact that WWE doesn’t have a clear direction for them and reducing the belts seems the right strategy for now.
