For the first time since 2016, the two world championships in the WWE from the men’s division will be unified at Wrestlemania 38. As announced by the WWE, Universal Champion Roman Reigns vs. WWE Champion Brock Lesnar will go down with higher stakes as it’s being billed as a Title Unification main-event bout.
Following Lesnar’s Rumble win, WWE originally billed Lesnar vs. Reigns as a Title vs. Title or Champion vs. Champion bout, but then it was changed to a Winner Takes All match following Elimination Chamber. This was an apparent opening the door for another title change down the line to have two champions again once Wrestlemania 38 gets over.
But WWE has since updated the match previews for the Wrestlemania 38 headliner, and it is being billed as a “Winner Take All Championship Unification” match. Also, at the beginning of this week’s SmackDown, WWE announced on TV that this will be a Title Unification Match.
So the Men’s World Titles will be unified and the situation won’t be similar to that of the Becky Lynch situation after WrestleMania 35, where the titles remained separate. Becky lost the Smackdown Women’s Title in a title defense, the month after but she technically never lost the Raw Women’s title, since then.
WWE Wrestlemania 38: Match Confirmed Featuring Logan Paul; More Updates
Also, Reigns vs. Lesnar will be the biggest WrestleMania match of all time. Wrestlemania 38 also marks Roman’s 6th main event at the Biggest Event of the Year. Prior to this, he main-evented WrestleMania 31 (against Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins), 32 (against Triple H), 33 (against WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker), 34 (against Brock Lesnar), and 37 (against Daniel Bryan and WWE Hall of Famer Edge).
Wrestlemania 38 will also be the 3rd main event at the Showcase of Immortals encounter between Lesnar and Reigns, which is a first time ever happening in WWE history. Earlier to this, Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock and The Undertaker vs. Triple H also happened 3 times at ’Mania but Austin vs. Rock main-evented twice while Taker vs. HHH was never featured in the main event slot.
