BCCI Set To Invite Fresh Applications To Appoint Head Coach; Ravi Shastri Can Re-Apply
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to begin the process of hiring a new head coach as it will soon invite the applications for the post. As per a report in PTI, the advertisement for the position will be uploaded on the board’s website soon.
Presently, the Indian tam’s coaching staff comprises of head coach Ravi Shastri, assistant coach Sanjay Bangar and bowling coach Bharat Arun. Shastri will have to re-apply for the position if he wishes to be in the fray for the job.
Rest of the former players are also expected to throw their hats in the ring to become the highest-paid coach in the cricketing circle. Ravi Shastri was appointed as the head coach of team India in July 2017.
He brought Bharat Arun as bowling coach while Sanjay Bangar was elevated to the post of assistant coach. Shankar Basu and Patrick Farhat were also given contracts by BCCI. Though they left their jobs after World Cup 2019.
For now, Shastri and co will travel to West Indies with the team and the process is expected to be completed by the end of the series.
It will be for the third time that BCCI will appoint a head coach following a formal procedure of inviting applications for the job. The process was started in 2016 when Anil Kumble won the race and leapfrogged Shastri for the job.
A year later, Kumble resigned from the job after his contract ended. Shastri did not apply for the post at first and only joined the race after BCCI re-opened the applications – following Kumble’s resignation.
However, all three former legends are not expected to pick up a coach this time due to conflict of interest issues. A few days ago, a report in Mumbai Mirror had suggested that Kapil Dev might head CAC to select the new coach.
He, Anshuman Gaekwad and Shantha Rangaswamy had selected WV Raman as the head coach of the women’s team last year.
