India Tour of West Indies was a successful tour for India as India won all the series across the formats. But there are some points where India need to look upon. Test openers were the main problem for the Indian Team. KL Rahul was given the place as an opener but he was not able to give the desired output. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is being considered for the option for the upcoming home Test series against South Africa.

In Test match against West Indies, Rahul was not able to reach the fifty-run mark. He was not consistent in the performance whereas the performance of opener effects the further game. Now there are recommendations from different veteran players to stop giving more chances to Kl Rahul and place Rohit Sharma as a replacement of him.

Rohit Sharma Experience can solve the Problem

Talking about Rohit Sharma’s performance in Test Matches, the player has last played at MCG in last December. He showed satisfactory performance as he scored unbeaten 63 in the first innings. But he has to leave between the series because of his injury and birth of his daughter.

In the World Cup 2019, Rohit scored five centuries which played a pivotal role for India. He has always proved to be a benefit to the team. While Rohit Sharma has not played as an opener in the Test team yet but has played as the middle-order batsman in Test matches.

Rohit has played 47 Test innings and scored 1585 runs and highest score being 177 in the Indian ground.

He has played as an opener in ODI and T20I formats but has played for the positon thrice in the first-class cricket. He is the only player with three double centuries in ODI history.

India is facing the problem of opener since 2018 and has not found the solution yet. Rohit was selected in the squad against West Indies but was not given the place in the final XI. Former players didn’t agree with the decision to not give the chance to the player.

Rohit Sharma can become the solution for the team if given chance. He should be given chance to bat with Mayank Agarwal to prove his ability.

MSK Prasad, the chief selector, has recently claimed that Rohit can be given the chance as a Test opener. In the upcoming home Test series against South Africa, KL Rahul has been dropped and Shubman Gill has been included in the squad.
