Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis: 159 runs against India
In the 8th match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, India played against Sri Lanka at the Oval. Virat Kohli led side lost the toss and was asked to bat first. The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan set up a strong partnership of 138 runs before the former lost his wicket. Rohit scored 78 runs while Dhawan played a blistering knock of 125 runs. MS Dhoni, at last, contributed 63 runs to set up a mammoth target of 321 runs.
However, Sri Lanka’s batsman Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusak Mendis helped their side to easily chase down the target. They went on to register a powerful partnership of 159 runs to thrash India’s bowling line up. At last, Angelo Mathews led Islanders to attain victory by seven wickets.
