ICC World Cup 2019: Faf du Plessis’ Wicket Was Special – Yuzvendra Chahal
In their opening match, India defeated South Africa by a margin of six wickets with 15 balls remaining. Virat Kohli-led India trapped the Proteas even below the score of 250 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah hauled South Africa with two-two wickets each. However, it was Yuzvendra Chahal who brought the opponents on their knees with his four-for spell. He paired with Bumrah and restricted the team to a paltry score of 227.
Chahal’s 4-51 against the Proteas played a big role in the remarkable victory of the team. Meanwhile, the names listed in those four wickets haul, adds a certain charm to the bowler’s kit. Rassie van der Dussen, Faf du Plessis, David Miller and Andile Phehlukwayo were the batsmen dismissed by him. Yuzvendra Chahal claimed that it was Faf du Plessis‘ wicket which was the most special.
After the match, Chahal was asked by his spin partner Kuldeep Yadav on bcci.tv on his favourite scalp of the night, to which he promptly replied: “Faf du Plessis.”

“Faf was playing with small forward-steps and I was drifting the ball well,” Chahal said.
According to him, the variations used by him were what got him the important wickets in the game. Explaining further he added,
“The previous two balls, I had bowled the legbreak. So for the wicket ball, I chose to bowl on off stump with the ball drifting in sharply. He couldn’t pick it, thinking I was bowling the legbreak, and that’s why the ball hit the inside of his bat and broke the stumps.”
Chahal Praised Rohit Sharma for his century against Rabada’s attack
After the spell bounding innings restricted by bowlers, India went on to hunt down the score of 228 runs. It wasn’t easy, although, with South Africa having the attack like Kagiso Rabada. Chris Morris. In fact, Rabada went on a spree to restrict the best of the batsmen of India like Virat Kohli. And soon India lost two most important wickets in just 15.3 overs for 54 runs.
However, Rohit Sharma stuck to his role and remained unbeaten by the end of the match. He partnered with KL Rahul (26 off 42) and MS Dhoni(34 off 46). While Hardik Pandya ended the match, hitting a four in his stunning style.
Nonetheless, Rohit impressed his teammates Virat Kohli and Chahal. Kohli called Rohit’s century as ‘very very special’ whereas Chahal praised the batsman for his century.
“He showed the temperament that an experienced batsman has,” Chahal said. “It wasn’t easy batting there against the new ball, but he stayed and finished the match. That was huge.”
Now India is preparing for their next match against Australia to be held on June 6, at The Oval. The two strongest teams of the tournament will be facing off in order to continue their massacre in the World Cup 2019.
