IPL 2019: Faf du Plessis to Miss CSK’s Opener Against RCB Due to Int’l Duty
Indian Premier League’s (IPL) defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Faf du Plessis in all likelihood will miss the curtain-raiser of the IPL 2019 in Chennai against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The South African skipper du Plessis will be representing his national team in the third and final Twenty20 International of the three-match series against Sri Lanka in Johannesburg on March 24.
However, the cash-rich IPL will commence from March 23.
However, Cricket South Africa (CSA) is has announce the squad for the first three ODIs against the Islanders. Du Plessis will lead the side.
It’s the clear indicator that right-handed batsman du Plessis will miss out on representing MS Dhoni-led Super Kings.
So much so, leg-spinner Imran Tahir could also miss out the initial action for the CSK.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals have retained the Proteas fast-bowling all-rounder Chris Morris.
The limited-overs leg will kick off with the first of five One-day Internationals on March 3 in Centurion. The T20I series will commence from March 19 at Newlands Cape Town.
Interestingly, it will also be their final assignment before the kick off of the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales on May 30. It adds that the Proteas could have a longer run in this year’s IPL season as compared to other foreign recruits, mainly from Australia and England. They are bound to leave the domestic professional league post-April.
Earlier, for the twelfth edition of the IPL, Super Kings used the Right to Match card for du Plessis as they shelled out INR 1.60 crore.
