IPL 2019: Kumar Sangakkara and Scott Styris Return to the Dug Out 2.0; Picks Favourites
As the Caravan of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has moved to Chennai for the kick-off of the twelfth edition of IPL 2019, Kumar Sangakkara and Scott Styris have also returned to the fold to dissect the game in the Dug Out 2.0.
The Dug Out show is the brainchild of broadcasting giant Star Sports which hold the rights to telecast the Vivo IPL 2019 competition.
The first season has witnessed a lot of hype with whole new experience taking the commentary to the next level.
While talking about the favourites for the IPL season, Sangakkara seemed to be puzzled while naming as many as three teams amongst favourites. He maintained Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) has a chance to make it big.
IPL 2019: Kumar Sangakkara, Scott Styris name favourites:
In between, the duo has talked to The Quint to its length and breadth ahead of the game between the defending champions CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
“Mumbai has a great side, they start slow. Chennai is always very strong. Delhi Capitals are looking like a proper side after a very long time. So, everyone got a chance,” Sangakkara told The Quint.
On the other side, Styris without any second thought has named Kane Williamson-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) favourites to lift their second IPL title.
“Sunrisers! I like the way they have been going for the past couple of years. I think they have bought well in the recent auction,” Styris stated.
Both star cricketers maintained that it’s the massive platform for youngsters to rise against the tide.
“I like to watch the older guards as well. Shikhar Dhawan has gone to Delhi to the top of the order. MS Dhoni, how good he was last year. You have Rohit Sharma to look forward to, Virat Kohli. You know just incredible players. Suresh Raina, he has been in and out of the main side for a bit of time,” Sangakkara added.
Former Sri Lankan skipper Sangakkara is also looking forward to see young cricketers making an impact. He said while considering the 2019 World Cup scheduled in England.
Styris believes it’s the IPL which has paved a way for India—to strengthen the bench. The pool of players has further allowed Indian team management to keep a close eye on the exciting prospects.
IPL 2019: Scott Styris hails Shubman Gill –
“And then, of course, one who I have on top of my list, who I think is going to be a terrific player – Shubman Gill. I am looking forward to seeing whether those players have taken a step from. All of them were impressive last year, can they go again,” Styris inferred.
Meanwhile, we’re a few moments away to witness the kick-off of the IPL tourney.
