ToggleOn Monday (19th October) evening, the 39-year-old former Indian captain MS Dhoni became the second captain in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to score 4000 runs for a team.
It was the 37th match of the IPL 2020 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium (Abu Dhabi), where CSK captain MS Dhoni decided to bat first after winning the toss.
MS Dhoni completed 4000 IPL runs as a CSK captain in 152nd innings
Before this match, Dhoni scored 3994 runs in 169 IPL matches (151 innings) for CSK, where he played all the matches as a captain. So, the right-handed wicket-keeper batsman was the only six runs away to become the second IPL captain to score 4000 runs for a team.
Dhoni reached this feat on Monday evening which was his 152nd IPL innings (170th IPL match) for CSK. While he was facing his 8th ball of the match after coming to bat at the no.5 position, Dhoni took three runs and completed his 4000 IPL runs for CSK as a captain. In that match, Dhoni scored 28 runs off 28 balls.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli was the first IPL captain to score 4000 runs for a team. As an RCB captain, Kohli has already scored 4357 IPL runs in 118 innings.

It was also the 200th IPL match for MS Dhoni – first cricketer to play 200 IPL matches. Before this match, the right-handed batsman has scored 4568 IPL runs (average 41.52 and strike-rate 137.67), including 23 fifties. At present, he is the seventh most run-scorer in IPL history.
It was Dhoni’s 184th IPL match as captain. Before this match, Dhoni scored 4278 IPL runs as a captain. Apart from leading CSK in 170 IPL matches, he also led now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) in 14 IPL matches during the IPL 2016. He scored 284 runs for RPS as a captain in the IPL 2016.
