PCB Announces Training Camp Squad; Shoaib Malik And Mohammad Hafeez Miss Out

On Monday (16th September), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the 20-member probable squad for the upcoming training camp. The selectors have not included two senior-most cricketers, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez, in the training camp squad.

Ahead of the home limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, these 20 Pakistan players will participate in the upcoming training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. This camp will begin this Wednesday (18th September). On 23rd September, the PCB is likely to announce the ODI and T20I squads for the Sri Lanka series.

Soon, Sri Lanka will tour in Pakistan for the three-match ODI and three-match T20I series. The ODI series will run from 27th September to 2nd October. Later, they will play the T20I series from 5th October to 9th October. It will be their first international cricket assignment for Pakistan after the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

PCB already announced that Sarfaraz Ahmed and Babar Azam would play the captain and vice-captain roles respectively in these series.

From the World Cup 2019 squad, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez missed out

The 37-year-old Shoaib Malik and the 38-year-old Mohammad Hafeez both are busy in the ongoing CPL 2019. PCB has clarified that both have the NOC to participate in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) until 12th October 2019. So, both these senior players are unavailable for the upcoming home limited-over series against Sri Lanka.

From the final 15-member Pakistan squad in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, only these two seniors and Shaheen Afridi have missed out the training camp squad. Due to diagnosing with dengue fever, the 19-year-old left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi has missed out this training camp.

Apart from the other World Cup members, Abid Ali, Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Iftikhar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Shinwari are also in the training camp squad. Abid Ali and Faheem Ashraf were in the initial World Cup 2019 squad but missed out the final squad.
