Virender Sehwag Reveals How Arun Jaitley Changed Delhi Cricketers’ Future

India lost the former Finance minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitely on Saturday (24th August) afternoon. Former Indian attacking opener Virender Sehwag revealed how Jaitley changed the cricket for the Delhi players. Sehwag’s long-time opening partner Gautam Gambhir also called Jaitley as a father figure.

Arun Jaitley was battling multiple health issues for a long time. Since 9th August 2019, Jaitley was in the hospital. His health deteriorated with the time moving, and he was on the life support for last some days. According to the brief statement from the hospital, the 66-year-old Jaitley died on Saturday at 12:07 pm.

Along with the other Indians, the Indian cricketers also mourned on this news. Former Delhi and Indian cricketers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir paid tribute Jaitley and revealed their experiences with him.

Arun Jaitley was also a famous face in the Indian cricket. He was the Vice President of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and President of Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Arun Jaitley was a problem solver – Virender Sehwag

On his official Twitter account, Virender Sehwag claimed that Jaitley played a massive role in the success of the Delhi cricketers. Under his leadership, many Delhi players got the opportunity to serve the national team. The former Indian attacking opener also added that Jaitley was the problem solver.

Sehwag tweeted, “Pained at the passing away of #ArunJaitley ji. Apart from having served greatly in public life , he played a huge role in many players from Delhi getting an opportunity to represent India. There was a time when not many players from Delhi got a chance at the highest level ..cont”

Later, in another post, Sehwag wrote, “But under his leadership at the DDCA, many players including me got a chance to represent India. He listened to needs of the players & was a problem solver. Personally shared a very beautiful relationship with him. My thoughts & prayers are with his family & loved ones. Om Shanti”

In 2004, Virender Sehwag’s marriage ceremony was organised at Arun Jaitley’s bungalow. Jaitley decorated that bungalow and made arrangements for the guests in that ceremony. However, Jaitley himself wasn’t present in that ceremony as he was busy in the campaigning in Bangalore.

Meanwhile, the former left-handed opening batsman Gautam Gambhir called Arun Jaitley as the father figure.

Gambhir tweeted, “A father teaches u to speak but a father figure teaches u to talk. A father teaches u to walk but a father figure teaches u to march on. A father gives u a name but a father figure gives u an identity. A part of me is gone with my Father Figure Shri Arun Jaitley Ji. RIP Sir.”

In last March, Gambhir joined the BJP. After winning the 2019 Indian general election from East Delhi, Gambhir is currently the member of Lok Sabha.
