One of the most shocking incidents took place during SmackDown’s premiere episode on FOX on the 4th of October. Brock Lesnar defeated Kofi Kingston in just 9 seconds to win the WWE Championship setting an all-time record.
He has thus also become the only superstar to win the most coveted title in sports entertainment on two occasions on SmackDown.

They wanted him to be a champion and thereby become the first-ever African born WWE Champion. His dream came true as he started a solid reign on SmackDown. A fighting champion like him would never love to lose his beloved title within nine seconds.

According to Tom Colohue, WWE was planning a storyline where Kofi Kingston was scheduled to become the weak link of The New Day (it wouldn’t have lead to a heel turn), but the plans were nixed when Xavier Woods got injured. Here’s more as carried by wwfoldschool.com,
“[Kofi] would lose matches and he’d do a lot of stuff to make you realize he’s not actually okay. We’re not talking heel turn or anything like that, he’d still be Kofi – he’d just be angry and out for revenge.”
The plan never came to fruition due to the injury suffered by Xavier Woods. He ruptured his ankle in a bad way that should keep him away from the WWE scene for almost six to nine months.

It’s their right to be angry if they want to be angry, but it’s my job to keep moving forward.
There’s a whole lot of stuff we don’t have control over, but we work with what we’re given, try to get a little bit more and claw your way back.
It might not be a direct, linear path.”
