It looks like WWE is looking forward to setting up a multi-team tag team title match at the next pay-per-view event. As seen on Smackdown, the current champions suffered back to back losses that should set up a pair of new contenders for the titles. So Daniel Bryan and Rowan’s title run must be in jeopardy, right now.

WWE Championship Match Set For Kofi Kingston At Extreme Rules
The opening contest of Smackdown featured a tag team match between The New Day members (Xavier Woods-Big E) vs. Daniel Bryan and Rowan. E took control of the match hitting belly-to-belly overhead suplexes but Daniel Bryan came back locking in the LeBell Lock. E fought out of it when Woods neutralized Rowan outside the ring. The Midnight Hour followed next that forced Bryan to digest a pinfall loss.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn ran out to the ring to attack the New Day, right away. However, The Heavy Machinery showed up to make the save but it set up an eight-man tag team match. The New Day and Heavy Machinery teamed up against Daniel Bryan, Rowan, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens. Otis and Tucker hit the Caterpillar followed by the Compactor on Zayn to get a huge win on Smackdown. This could set up a triple threat matchup at the next PPV event.
Daniel Bryan and Rowan have been on a mission to prove themselves to be the Planet’s Smackdown Tag Team Champions. Ever since winning the titles, they claimed to bring the prestige back to these. However, the lack of storylines did not allow them to stick to their words until Heavy Machinery arrived at the scene.
These two teams collided at Stomping Grounds to deliver a decent matchup where the Smackdown tag team champions prevailed. They retained in a worthy fashion only to come short the very next night on Raw. The New Day pinned the champions hinting that they would be back on the tag team title picture. Even WWE.com hinted the same on their preview prior to Smackdown,
“Daniel Bryan & Rowan’s crusade to bring respect to the tag team division took another step forward at Stomping Grounds when they defeated the powerful Heavy Machinery to retain their SmackDown Tag Team Titles. However, their cause may have taken a step back when they were eliminated first in an Eight-Man Elimination Tag Team Match by The New Day, thanks to an inadvertent assist from Raw Tag Team Champions The Revival, who could not get on the same page with Bryan & Rowan.
Can the champions bounce back? Have Xavier Woods & Big E put themselves in position for a future SmackDown Tag Team Title opportunity?”
As we have seen in the show, the Champions have suffered a couple of losses that should force them to defend, sooner.
