Ever since assigning Sasha Banks and Bayley to the SmackDown roster, it was pretty evident that WWE does want to host a feud between these two superstars. They are the two cornerstone figures from the female locker room in the blue brand and a rivalry has to happen, at some point. Chances were bigger, that we could have seen this around the show of shows.
That was not the case and now it seems that the feud will have to wait for some more months before these two eventually get turned on each other. WWE had earlier plans to do Bayley vs. Sasha Banks for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 36 this year in April. The match didn’t take place because of Banks’ injury. There wasn’t enough time to build up the feud after she returned.
The company again started teasing the break up of Sasha Banks and Bayley’s team over the past set of weeks. But the official buildup hasn’t started yet as the trigger is yet to be pulled between the duo. It seems like WWE creative team wants to wait for even more to before finally getting things running for the duo. WrestleTalk has reported that the match has possibly been delayed and it won’t take place at SummerSlam 2020, either.
“WrestleTalk has learned that WWE wants to extend the feud, and sees more potential in drawing it out as opposed to rushing it.
Whether this means WWE changes their plans remains to be seen, and our sources have said that while the match isn’t completely off the table right now, the company is considering other options for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at [SummerSlam 2020].”
For those who don’t know, Sasha Banks and Bayley had a benchmark rivalry at NXT which also produced five-star rated matches. The pro-wrestling fans could still drool over those matches and hence they want the magic work back from the duo. Perhaps, WWE also has some bigger plans for these two, down the line but not at SummerSlam.
Since the audience wants Sasha Banks vs Bayley to happen, WWE might just decide to hold this program off until and unless they return to enjoy shows following the coronavirus pandemic. The reactions from the people would be something worth watching out for.
As of now, Bayley continues to be the longest-reigning SmackDown Women’s Champion whereas Sasha Banks is just acting as her sidekick.
