Revealed: The Worst WWE WrestleMania Match That Vince McMahon Has Ever Seen
WrestleMania matches remain a must-see considering the creative team stores the best lineups for the show. However, not every one of them gets executed well as lack of performance is one of the reasons behind this.
Plus, when you put a commentator into a match, the experience gets bitter for not only the fans but also for The Boss of the company.
For those who do not remember, WWE Raw commentator Michael Cole was once involved in a storyline with fellow colleague Jerry Lawler that culminated in a matchup at WrestleMania.
Stone Cold Steve Austin served as the special guest referee to make up the incompetence state of an aged person like Jerry. But that was not enough to stop this match from becoming a disaster.
During a recent appearance on WWE’s After The Bell podcast, WWE commentator Michael Cole revealed an interesting fact around his only WrestleMania match.
This one took place against Jerry “The King” Lawler at 27th edition of the show (which Cole won via DQ) was the worst match that Vince McMahon has ever seen.
Check out the whole experience in the words of WWE’s voice, Michael Cole,
“Jerry comes off the rope with a missile dropkick and he kicks me right in the mouth. What happened? My other tooth next to the one Punk knocked out goes flying across the ring so now I’ve lost two teeth in the same day. There’s blood everywhere.
Jerry looks at me and he throws a right hand and I don’t even sell. I don’t even know where I’m at. I’m still on my feet and he goes, ‘Michael you’ve gotta go down when I throw a punch.’ So the next punch he throws with his index knuckle out and he catches me under the eye I go down like a brick.
Then when I get up he goes, ‘I’m gonna deliver the Stunner.’ I said, ‘A stunner?! How do I do a stunner?’ He goes: ‘Just sit there.’ He jammed his shoulder into my chin so bad I’m just laying there and they count the 1-2-3 or it’s over and I tapped out or whatever happened.
I got carried out of there a bloody mess. As I go to the back Vince, I walked to the back, and I’m like, ‘Man, I thought that went pretty good.’ I go to the back and I look at Vince, and Vince looks at me and he goes, ‘That is the worst thing I’ve ever witnessed in 60 years.’
So, that was my WrestleMania match, but the check cleared and I’m still undefeated.”
WWE would go on to use Michael Cole as a performer on a couple of occasions, following this including one against John Cena. He was humiliated by the franchise player in it to the delight of the WWE Universe.
Same was the experience for the fans for a ‘Kiss my foot’ contest against Jerry Lawler where the Hall of Famer vented out months of frustrations against his colleague.
