WWE News: WWE Championship Match Set For Kofi Kingston At Extreme Rules

WWE Smackdown opened with blockbuster news that announced the next championship defense for Kofi Kingston. The proud champion informed us that at Extreme Rules, it will be Samoa Joe challenging him for the WWE title in a singles contest. This announcement did not come in an unprecedented way as Joe attacked him on Raw, the night before.

However, it looked like that Dolph Ziggler was still not over with his pledge of becoming the WWE Champion. So he came out interrupting the segment and announcing the main event of the night. It will feature him in a match against Kofi in a 2-out-of-3 Falls capacity. If he wins then at Extreme Rules, he competes in a triple threat title match alongside Joe and Kofi.

So the main event of Smackdown featured a rematch from Stomping Grounds with an added stipulation. Dolph Ziggler and Kofi Kingston traded pinfall attempts with the latter one catching Ziggler with a schoolboy for the pinfall. A frustrated Ziggler came back with a zig-zag followed by a Superkick for the second one. The third one belonged to Kofi as he avoided a superkick and landed the Trouble in Paradise, successfully. With this win, Kofi vs. Joe for the WWE title at Extreme Rules is now official.

Kofi Kingston appeared on this week’s episode of WWE Raw using the advantage of Wild Card just like the previous weeks. He competed in a couple of back to back matches against Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. It hinted that the ongoing rivalry on Smackdown will continue especially that Sami and Kevin won their match at Stomping Grounds.

However, the scenario soon changed once the matches were over. Kofi Kingston won both of them and went to leave when Samoa Joe attacked him from the back. He delivered a Uranage on the ramp and choked him up with the Coquina Clutch. This forced WWE.com to already indicate that a new feud may be in the pipeline,

“WWE Champion Kofi Kingston leaped over Dolph Ziggler and out of a steel cage to victory on Sunday at Stomping Grounds, then bested both Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens in consecutive matches on Monday Night Raw. But the champion did not have a moment to rest last night, as Samoa Joe crept up behind him and put Kingston’s lights out with the Coquina Clutch.

How will the WWE Champion react to this shocking sneak attack?”

Well, that’s exactly what the creative team has in-store for Extreme Rules as Kofi Kingston eyes to defend the WWE Championship against Samoa Joe.
