WWE News: Multi-Time Former Champion Rusev Intends To Leave WWE

One of the regular faces of Smackdown TV has been absent from the WWE programming for quite sometimes. Rusev is the concerned name whom WWE failed to use in any impactful storylines. The same trend has been going on for multiple years leading him to a frustrating stage of his career. So reports suggested that it was he who wanted some time off.

Why John Cena Will Remain As The Last-ever Poster Boy Of The WWE?

8 Unknown Facts About WWE Couple Lana And Rusev

The Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer has given the previous updates stating that he asked for a hiatus from WWE creative heads. Rusev does not have satisfaction from a storyline perspective and thus we can’t blame him for asking so. Now the same source has provided some additional updates on his WWE career that could be in serious jeopardy.

Meet Rusev Wife Lana and His Family

Meltzer spoke on the issue on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio hinting that Rusev’s contract with the WWE might be coming to an end, quite soon. He has asked for time-off which could force the creative team to freeze his contract just like they did the same with Harper and Sasha Banks, maybe. Thus the three-time US Champ may have already wrestled his last WWE match.

However, outside promotions namely AEW may be looking forward to taking him under their wings, (courtesy ringsidenews.com)

“As far as AEW I would think that they would want him. As far as New Japan I would think that they would want him. It’s a question of how much they would go up on price for him. I don’t know what Gedo thinks of him. I would think that they would want him. I mean he’s not going to be a difference maker like Moxley and Jericho was, but he’s a good wrestler and he could do well there.”

The veteran wrestling journalist also mentioned that Rusev leaving WWE does not surprise him, at all. Officials have been ignoring him on storylines or title pictures for too long. He did not belong to main event status either for a significant course. However, he can be hopeful that AEW would justify to his potentials,

“Honestly, I think in AEW he could do great because people will remember the Rusev Day stuff. I mean they won’t be able to do it because I’m sure they’ve trademarked Rusev Day. I mean they could always work around it and they’re really into that irony stuff so I actually think that if he left with that [AEW] fan base I think that he would do really well.”
