The first televised WWE show of 2019 takes place tonight in the form of SmackDown. Royal Rumble hypes have already begun from last week onwards as we have received one of the confirmed main event matches of the pay-per-view. The WWE Title match is now official following last week’s contender determiner match as we can now expect heavy buildups behind this contest.
Roman Reigns is back on the winning track as he picked up a win over Dolph Ziggler on FOX’s New Year’s Eve. Now, he will eye his due win against King Corbin as the feud continues. The women’s championship title matchup should also be finalized at Royal Rumble PPV as the rivalry is stretching up since Survivor Series PPV.
All of these and more are expected at the first SmackDown of 2020 that takes place at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.
A triple threat number one contender’s match headlined last week’s SmackDown to declare the challenger for the Universal Championship at Royal Rumble. Daniel Bryan won the match via submission to secure a rematch against The Fiend and thus continued the rivalry over the title.
Daniel Bryan returned at WWE TLC with a new look and attitude to counter the mind games by the champion on SmackDown. To date, the viciousness is working as The Fiend has not been able to upstage him.
However, he did send a message as the show went off the air, last week. Could he be lurking in to hunt down Bryan with a predator mindset in tonight? Or will Bryan prevail with his rebellious persona? We’ll find out the answer when SmackDown airs.
Roman Reigns suffered a big loss at the hands of King Corbin at WWE TLC pay-per-view. But he made a comeback in a big way by costing Corbin his number one contender’s match for the Universal Championship.
Later the night, he also defeated Corbin’s partner-in-crime, Dolph Ziggler on FOX’s New Year Eve. With the momentums coming back in his favor, Reigns must be looking forward to claiming a rematch against his current rival and enter Royal Rumble on a winning note.
The Intercontinental Championship rivalry is slowly building up on SmackDown with the return of Braun Strowman, two weeks ago. He demanded a title shot against Nakamura which was not readily accepted.
But Strowman did pin Nakamura in a tag team match last week that must have cleared his path to get the title shot. So this earlier predicted title match should also be in the pipeline to get inserted into the Royal Rumble match card.
Lacey Evans has been on a path of redemption after what Sasha Banks did to her little girl on SmackDown, two weeks ago. But she couldn’t pick up momentums on her favor by losing a tag team match against Banks and Bayley. The good news is that Lacey did not suffer the pinfall by herself which would not remove her from the title picture.
She should find out a way to receive the SmackDown Women’s Title shot at Royal Rumble against Bayley as the feud continues to kick-off 2020.
