The first PPV title defense for Ronda Rousey was supposed to go down at Hell in a Cell 2022 edition but things are uncertain for the title match. The Baddest Woman on the Planet defeated Charlotte Flair at Wrestlemania Backlash 2022 in an I Quit Match to capture her Smackdown Women’s Championship but a lack of viable opponents is affecting her run.
WWE had to change up a lot of plans after Sasha Banks and Naomi had walked out of the scene on a recent episode of WWE Raw. They weren’t happy with their position on the roster despite being booked in top matches at Hell in a Cell 2022. Several reports are available on what could work as the motivation behind Banks and Naomi’s protest.
Hell In A Cell 2022: Latest Update On June 5 PLE Match Card
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that WWE’s plan for Banks and Naomi would have seen them competing in singles title matches at Hell in a Cell 2022. Sasha would have challenged for Smackdown Women’s Title while Naomi was booked to take on Bianca Belair. But they weren’t happy with the creative pitches made by the officials.
“Naomi was going to win the [six-pack challenge] match and she was actually supposed to pin Sasha to win the match, so they were gonna be the last two left. Then Sasha was going to Ronda Rousey for the SmackDown Women’s Title at the pay-per-view and Naomi was gonna challenge for the RAW Women’s Title against Bianca Belair.”

Sasha and Naomi didn’t like their Hell in a Cell 2022 booking
It was further noted that there was “nothing else to” the situation. The former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions simply didn’t like their booking for Hell in a Cell 2022 and they opted to leave the scene. It was indeed surprising to see Banks and Naomi leaving despite getting two featured spots on WWE television for weeks but reports claimed that they were frustrated for weeks prior to that.
As a result, WWE Universe will be the unfortunate ones as they would miss a top feud between Ronda Rousey and Sasha Banks over the Smackdown Women’s Title. In Banks’ absence, Rousey’s next title defense at Hell in a Cell 2022 is in sheer jeopardy. Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair is booked for a triple threat title defense against Asuka and Becky Lynch.
