Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions in the post-Wrestlemania 39 season. They were so confident about their ability in successful defenses that they wanted to be champions, forever. However, an injury stopped their momentum and also the championships.
As reported earlier, Liv Morgan was out of action after getting injured during a WWE Women’s Tag Team Title match against Damage CTRL on Smackdown. The champions were able to win that match, but Liv took a kick to the face by Dakota Kai in the corner to pick up the injury. Ironically, Kai herself got injured in that match, an ACL tear which forced her to undergo surgery and out of action for months to follow.

Initial reports suggested that Liv Morgan’s injury wasn’t that much fatal and that she’s expected to return within a limited period. However, the injury was bad enough to undergo surgery. In more update, Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that WWE didn’t expect the former champion to be back until the end of the summer. The exact return timeline wasn’t revealed by the report,
“WWE sources told Fightful they expect Liv Morgan to “at least be sidelined through the summer. We don’t have a further update beyond that.”

Liv Morgan’s injury was much worse than initially expected
In an additional update from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that the former tag champion’s injury was “worse than originally expected” and that she’ll “be out long enough that [WWE] decided to move on and give Rodriguez a new partner.” Following the injury, WWE quickly tagged Raquel with Shotzi and go back into the championship hunt. Eventually, Liv was back and she won back the gold with Raquel.
Wrestlemania 43 Location Essentially Chosen By WWE Way Ahead In Schedule
Following Wrestlemania 39, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez won the women’s tag team championship in mid-April by defeating Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. Before the injury occurred, the duo was set to defend the belts against Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville. However, WWE decided to vacate the titles, and that did indicate that the injury was severe.
That being said, one of the most popular superstars of the female roster wasn’t expected to be seen on TV for several weeks but thankfully she came back, earlier than expected. Liv Morgan has been going through a blossoming process in her career following her 2022 Money in the Bank win and that process seemingly continues after a brief halt.
