Mercedes Mone essentially shook the AEW Women’s Division as well as the women’s wrestling circuit upon her arrival at All Elite Wrestling. But before signing with Tony Khan’s promotion, she reportedly was in talks with the WWE about a potential return. Those reports were later confirmed and the deal never reached fruition presumably due to the contract amount.
The rumors also hinted at Mercedes Mone possibly joining her long-time frenemy Bayley for the ongoing storyline with Damage CTRL. However, a new report suggests that a reunion was never planned for the former two-time WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. According to the reports of Fightful Select, there were no plans for the former WWE star to be involved in Bayley’s storyline.

Mercedes Mone was never pitched for Damage CTRL
Members of WWE Creative told Fightful that if Mercedes Mone had re-signed with WWE, plans around her would have been different, but talks never reached a point where the two parties could have got involved in future planning around storyline insertions.
It was further noted by the source that while Mercedes Mone’s involvement was never likely, Fightful notes that there were originally plans for Charlotte Flair to be in Bayley’s corner during the feud with Damage CTRL. But plans got scrapped when Flair suffered a serious knee injury in December. Now, Damage CTRL is involved in a feud with Naomi, Bianca Belair, and Jade Cargill, who will meet Asuka, Kairi Sane, and Dakota Kai at WrestleMania XL.
As for Mercedes Mone, it was during the opening moments of AEW Big Business that she made her highly anticipated debut in All Elite Wrestling. It was after a long time that the former WWE Superstar appeared on TV to shake things up for the female talents of the company which was further dubbed as a kick-off to a global women’s revolution.
