Raquel Rodriguez had a successful run on NXT where she was portrayed as a reckless machine who bulldozed everything standing in front of her. That eventually earned her a run with the NXT Women’s Champion and an immense fan following, at the same time. She also had a couple of runs with the Women’s Tag Team Championships on NXT before finally making her way to the main roster.
Rodriguez debuted on Friday Night SmackDown and even faced a top WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey over the Smackdown Women’s Championship. Obviously, that chance of becoming a champion in the mainstay league wasn’t successful as she’s yet to travel a long road. Through this, she can certainly hope to reunite with her former tag team partner from NXT.
WWE Trying To Make Raquel Rodriguez “A Big Star” On The Roster
During her time in NXT, Raquel Rodriguez was in a tag team with Dakota Kai. The latter brought Raquel as her bodyguard and shared a great rapport until Kai turned on her, and they began feuding for the NXT Women’s Championship. Kai was eventually released from the WWE contract amid the budget-cut releases while her nemesis was sent to Smackdown.
Raquel Rodriguez spoke about Dakota Kai’s return at Wrestlemania 39 Launch Party
While speaking at the WrestleMania 39 launch party at SoFi Stadium, Raquel Rodriguez sounded excited to see Dakota Kai back in WWE since SummerSlam. She also hoped to reunite with her former buddy in the future,
“The things that girl does and the way that she just moves and walks with confidence. I learned so much from her just by being under her wing for so long. You know what, I mean, she’s been just a big part of my career as well.
So seeing her on ‘Raw’ just makes me absolutely happy. Am I a little bit sad that she’s not on ‘SmackDown?’ Yes, but you know what she’s out there, and she’s killing it. Maybe somewhere down the road, we will reunite at some point. I hope.”
Raquel Rodriguez is still trying to find her foothold on the Smackdown roster as a babyface figure. As for Kai, she returned to WWE TV alongside Bayley, and Iyo SKY as the trio targeted WWE Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair following the latter’s successful title defense against Becky Lynch.
Then two nights later during the post-Summerslam edition of WWE Raw, Bayley, Kai, and SKY took out Becky Lynch who was already injured at Summerslam. The trio tried to attack Belair, again but Alexa Bliss and Asuka provided the backup to the champion.
