After enjoying a solid run on the NXT roster, Raquel Rodriguez arrived on the main roster, last April. Within six months of her stint in the mainstay league, she got the taste of becoming a champion. She and Aliyah squared off against Dakota Kai and IYO SKY in the Women’s Tag Team Championship Tournament Finals and picked up an unprecedented win over the DAMAGE CTRL members to win the vacant belts.
Raquel Rodriguez acted as the muscle of the group but despite her strong display, they weren’t able to enjoy a long run with the gold. After 14 days, DAMAGE CTRL won those titles from them but reports suggest that bigger plans could be in-store for the Mexican Superstar in the future.

The former NXT Women’s Champion can certainly expect to win more titles in the WWE on the mainstay scene and she also wants variety in titles on the female roster. Speaking on the Ten Count on NBC Sports Boston, Raquel Rodriguez discussed the idea of WWE possibly introducing a mid-card belt.

She reflected on her multiple short tag team title reigns in the women’s division in NXT as well as on the main roster (She enjoyed only 16 days under three different tag team title reigns across NXT and Smackdown). Raquel Rodriguez made it clear that she believes WWE should introduce a women’s Intercontinental Title to provide more opportunities to their female talents.
“We have women from all over the world, from all over the country, from different backgrounds and different ethnicities. I think having an Intercontinental Championship, having a North American championship for the women would be something. Just a huge leap forward for the Women’s Division in wrestling in general.”
WWE currently has Women’s Tag Team Championships, RAW Women’s Championship, and Smackdown Women’s Championship on the main roster while they have the Unified NXT Women’s Championship and NXT Women’s Tag Team Championships. We’ll have to wait and see if they’ll introduce a mid-card title, listening to the urge of Raquel Rodriguez or not.
As noted above, Raquel Rodriguez is a multi-time champion in the WWE, with a previous reign as the NXT Women’s Championship. With Dakota Kai, she also became the inaugural NXT Women’s Tag Team champion on two occasions while on the main roster Aliyah was her first tag team partner in winning the vacant Women’s Tag Team Titles.
