Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship in the main event of Wrestlemania 39 Night Two. After that, he went on a hiatus from WWE programming before coming back in time for Night of Champions to go after the undisputed tag team titles. However, Jimmy Uso’s betrayal ruined that opportunity.
Roman Reigns is currently closing in on being the Universal Champion for almost three years, counting from August 2020 when he won that title. Plus, he has already surpassed one year as the WWE Champion. At this past weekend’s Night of Champions premium live event, he officially completed 1000 days as the Universal Champion which calls for a celebration, this Friday night on Smackdown.
WWE Smackdown: 2023 Money In The Bank Qualifiers; Roman Reigns’ Celebration Announced
Big match waiting for Roman Reigns at MITB
The popular belief is that Jimmy Uso will be interrupting that celebration to officially begin a feud with his Tribal Chief. This could set up a tag team match featuring Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa vs. The Usos at Money in the Bank PLE on July 1.
If that’s the case then Roman Reigns’ undisputed titles won’t be on the line until Summerslam 2023. This is a smart strategy from WWE’s perspective to keep the champion in a protected state with the theory that there’s no one relevant enough to go after those titles.
