The IIconics – Billie Kay and Peyton Royce, used to be one of the most popular tag teams in the WWE women’s division. They also made history by capturing the Women’s Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania for the first time ever. Despite their success and the potential, WWE ended up releasing them from their contract which appeared to be devastating for them.
The IIconics were released on the 15th of April 2021 as part of the budgets cuts related to COVID-19. This led to despair for both of these two superstars who had a huge dream of performing in the WWE, coming all the way from Australia. As stated in numerous interviews, WWE was their dream job and they’re unsure of wrestling after the release.

The two recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated and talked about how it was a “very scary time” when they received the bad news, back on April 15. After that, they were scared since they have lost the right of holding green-card for not being United States citizens.
“It was a very scary time when we were let go, especially since we were not U.S. citizens,” one half of The IIconics, Peyton Royce stated. “Every decision we made impacted our future, so that creates a very daunting time. WWE has an incredible platform and amazing brand, but our success is now in our hands. We’re building something bigger different, something that belongs to us.”

The IIconics want to bring prestige back to tag titles
Fans of The IIconics wondered what would be next for the duo following their WWE release as they debuted with Impact Wrestling at Bound For Glory on October 23 as The IInspiration. Under the name of Cassie Lee and Jessica McKay, the two ended up defeating Havok and Rosemary to become the new Knockouts Tag Team Champions.
McKay fka Billie Kay commented during the discussion on how going to Impact felt natural for the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. She also mentioned how they are now focused on bringing prestige back to the belts.
“We’re so grateful to be champions of the best women’s tag division in the world,” McKay said. “When we were free agents, the more Cassie and I discussed our options, the more Impact felt like the natural decision for us. We wanted to be with a company with a certain production level and roster. That is Impact. It’s been a great journey so far, and it’s just getting started.”
