The Rock previously had a dream opponent in Roman Reigns but things changed drastically around the Wrestlemania 40 season. Since his return to become a part of the Show of Shows, the bitter feud with Cody Rhodes has become one of the hottest storylines in professional wrestling and it didn’t produce a singles encounter.

Throughout Rhodes’ feud with Roman Reigns, The Rock used his Final Boss gimmick to make things personal with Rhodes. Then he also pinned Rhodes to win the Biggest Tag Team Match of all time in the WWE. A night later, Rhodes defeated The Tribal Chief to become the new WWE Champion and it could have started a fresh feud that should culminate in a big match.

Certainly, The Rock is not over with Cody Rhodes, and a match between both men is destined to happen soon. A new update from Dave Meltzer via Wrestling Observer Radio further supported the theory and it also revealed the potential date for a match between them. As per the update, this match shouldn’t happen any time before WrestleMania 41.

Continuing the feud between The Final Boss and The American Nightmare won’t be that easy for the WWE. Furthermore, this match would also postpone The Rock vs. Roman Reigns contest for one more year if this one has to happen after all.

The Rock congratulated Cody Rhodes on post-Wrestlemania Raw

On the post-Wrestlemania 40 episode of Monday Night Raw, The Rock arrived in the ring to congratulate Cody as he finished the story. Amid massive boos from the Philadelphia crowd, Cody held the People’s Championship for a moment in return for the WWE Championship to his rival.

The Rock put the WWE Title on his shoulder and said this felt right. After returning the title to Cody, fans started chanting “Goodbye” to him as he was about to leave the WWE for some time. The People’s Champion affirmed that when he comes back, he’s going to come back for Cody, whether Cody remains the champion or not. Cody said he’d be looking forward to it.

The Rock further reminded that before Cody defeated Roman, he defeated Cody on Wrestlemania Saturday. So, Cody’s story with Roman could be over, but their story has just begun.
