It’s safe to say that Maria Kanellis has been one of the most popular female superstars to have been on the WWE roster. Her initial run in WWE back in the late 2000s saw her enter romantic storylines with the likes of Santino Marella, Dolph Ziggler, and even John Cena. Each of those angles cemented her run as a super babyface that also landed her on the cover of Playboy Magazine.
After getting released in 2010, Maria Kanellis found her way back to the WWE in 2017 with her husband Mike Bennett. This time she was a heel who couldn’t find much success and the couple was let go by WWE a couple of years ago as part of the COVID-19-related budget cuts. After staying under the Impact Wrestling banner for quite some time, it’s time for them to look toward the future.

Maria Kanellis isn’t going to WWE or AEW
Now that she is a free agent, there have been speculations of potential arrival in AEW or WWE. Earlier this year, it was reported that AEW CEO Tony Khan spoke with Maria Kanellis after taking over Ring Of Honor, where the latter was in charge of booking the women’s division. This led to many believing that the two individuals might work in a collaboration to bring out the very best in the women’s division but that’s not the case.
According to a new update from Fightful, Maria Kanellis did have such a discussion with Khan, but Khan plans on booking AEW and ROH divisions, all by himself. So, the former Impact roster member will continue to drop creative inputs for her Women’s Wrestling Army promotion. She has recruited former WWE trainer Alison Danger and Gabby Ortiz from Busted Open Radio to be a part of her team.
Maria Kanellis, along with Vincent, her husband Michael Bennett, and Matt Taven had been part of the faction Honor No More and they finished their run with Impact Wrestling at the Bound For Glory PPV event. While WWE is reportedly interested in Taven, no word’s been heard regarding Kanellis or her husband. So, the couple is not on the radar of the WWE, as of now.
