WrestleMania 37 is still months away on WWE calendar but following the tradition, WWE seems to have already planted seeds for one of the marquee matches of the show. Randy Orton won his tenth WWE Title, his overall fourteenth world title at Hell in a Cell, ending Drew McIntyre’s first reign with the prime title in sports entertainment.
Now, WWE seems to have plans in store for the top title when it comes to the show of shows, WrestleMania 37. Edge and Orton’s bitter rivalry is not over yet. It was rumored that the Rated R Superstar agreed with Vince McMahon to a WrestleMania match when he was injured at Backlash. Apparently, he wants to end things with Orton on the grandest stage of them all and he will have his wish fulfilled.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned that the current situation is that Orton vs Edge will take place at WrestleMania 37 with the WWE Championship on the line.
“I certainly was given the impression tonight that Orton and Edge is the direction right now for that championship.”
Wrestlemania 37: WWE Shifting The Show From LA To Florida
Back in July, the reports were out that WWE had plans for the final match of the trilogy between Orton and WWE Hall of Famer Edge to end the program. This could have culminated at SummerSlam 2020 but then Edge suffered the triceps injury during “The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” at WWE Backlash in June.
Rumors for Edge vs. Orton already suggested that the title match would take place at WrestleMania 37, back to the summer. There were also plans for the match to be contested under the “I Quit” rules, but there’s no confirmation available on whether the creative team wants to keep things, that way. WWE still has over 5 months to figure out the big event, though.
In late August, speculations were out that Edge vs. Orton must have been nixed as there was no longer a clear direction available for WrestleMania 37 main event.
But with Orton winning the title from Drew McIntyre at Hell In a Cell 2020, the plan is back on track. Now, we’d only have to wait for Edge to make his comeback which could resume the program. There’s no confirmed update on when The Rated R Superstar will be back in the ring for WWE, but he’s rumored for an early 2021 return.
