WWE tried their very best to book Stone Cold Steve Austin into a match at WrestleMania 39 but things didn’t materialize due to the fact that he wasn’t interested in the made pitches by the company. He rejected ideas of facing the two main-eventers from last year’s ‘Mania and staying retired.
In changed circumstances, chances have become bright that we might still get to see The Texas Rattlesnake back in action at Wrestlemania 39. According to Sean Sapp in a report behind Fightful’s paywall, WWE has been making pitches to the legendary wrestler since last year.
WWE Raw: Roman Reigns’ Return Announced On The Road To Wrestlemania 39
Since Steve Austin is in great shape, he might still agree to wrestle a match but he hasn’t agreed to any ideas offered by the WWE,
“We’ve been told and reported that multiple pitches have been made to Steve Austin since last year. WWE sources believe he’s been open-minded to the possibility of wrestling another match for the right situation and right money, but the offers so far haven’t seemed like either of those.”

Stone Cold vs. LA Knight pitched for Wrestlemania 39?
The same report from Fightful Select also noted that Austin might be open to doing an impromptu match (just like last year) with SmackDown Superstar LA Knight at WrestleMania 39. This comes after the heel superstar has been claiming that there would be no ‘Mania this year with his name on the match card,
“Of late, we’ve heard that a very in-shape Steve Austin was made additional pitches to get on the show, but not for necessarily marquee matches. LA Knight was a name rumored online, and we can confirm that’s at least been pitched. However, nobody close to Austin or in WWE have been able to verify that it’s happening as of yet.”
With WWE 2K23 arriving in time for Wrestlemania 39, It was also noted that “Steve Austin is scheduled to do some WWE-related promotional work for WWE 2K soon.” As the promotional campaigns begin, the multi-time former WWE Champion could be seen in the festivities before finally agreeing to show up at the biggest event of the year.
We will have to wait and see where Steve Austin eventually wrestles again. He did return for a match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 Night One, but he rejected another opportunity in the summer to wrestle a match against Brock Lesnar. Reports also claimed that WWE wanted him to face Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania 39, a match that was also scrapped.
