WWE Day 1 brought an unusual start to the PPV calendar for the biggest professional wrestling company in the world. In general Royal Rumble opens things up in the PPV calendar which also kicks things off for the Wrestlemania season. But this year, the norm was different as WWE nixed their annual TLC event in December to keep the entire month PPV-less and place one on the very first day of 2022.
Thus, the WWE Day 1 concept was produced which was said to be a brainchild of WWE President Tony Khan. The tradition will be kept in the near future given it has found success despite the absence of the main-eventer Universal Champion Roman Reigns. His cousins, The Usos were in action on the night during the opening contest.
