Becky Lynch will defend both the Smackdown and Raw Women’s Championships at Money in the Bank pay-per-view event. Being The Man, she has received the job to pull off double duty after picking up both the championships at WrestleMania. It is indeed the right-most time for her to prove the ‘Becky Two Belts’ gimmick right.
But the current reports are any indications then she may not carry both the belts following the upcoming PPV on May 19th Charlotte Flair is her opponent for the SmackDown Women’s Championship whom we previously reported taking the title away from Becky Lynch. But now it seems that Lacey Evans is her biggest threat for the red-strapped title.
As revealed by Brad Shepard on the Oh You Didn’t Know wrestling podcast, the hypes around Becky Lynch has already started fading away. With the fallen ratings of WWE TV, the plan is to wear down the cheering from the audience. At this point, Vince McMahon is quite high on Lacey Evans and wants her to come out as the new champion rather than Charlotte Flair. The potential plans go as follows, (via SportsKeeda.com)
“According to a source in WWE they believe the company is ‘wearing the Becky Lynch thing out. They believe that two matches at Money In The Bank will be the first cracks in the Becky Lynch armor so to speak and they believe the crowd would pop if Lacey Evans won. So it’s very interesting to get a perspective of somebody in WWE as to how they feel the Becky Lynch thing is continuing to play out,” stated Shepard.
The previous plan was to take the Smackdown women’s championship away from Becky Lynch so that she could shift to the Raw brand. If WWE is high on Lacey Evans then it’s the other title that Becky will drop. Still, the sources have reported that The Man will permanently move to the Raw brand. There’s no update available on what the future of Smackdown women’s championship will be.
Becky Lynch fans could be disappointed with this news as she has barely received a long-term feud to prove her potential. But one thing that WWE officials consider as terrible is the lower ratings. Be it Kofi Kingston or Becky Lynch, both champions on Smackdown have not been able to pull up the ratings despite their popularity. So there could be repercussions coming their way at Money in the Bank.
