Earlier this year, it was reported that Sushil Kumar was offered a WWE contract. It was in the month of October when the WWE officials came to New Delhi to meet the Indian wrestler to discuss future opportunities. The spokesperson of Sushil then hinted he might join the WWE.
Now according to the sources, Sushil has accepted the WWE’s offer in November. If things go smoothly then he might debut after one year’s training i.e. in November 2017. The decision was tough for the Olympian since another pro-wrestling promotion TNA also approached him.
After the Rio Olympics debacle, Sushil wanted to have more options for him and what better thing to get into the pinnacle of sports entertainment for a bright future. A source from the Sushil’s camp commented on the undergoing:
“Ever since getting the offer in October, Sushil didn’t really pay attention to it, but after repeated calls from the WWE representatives, a negotiation has been settled, in terms of finances. But the major issue, in this case, is Sushil’s willingness to continue an amateur wrestling career.
“Hence November will be a good time for him to give this entire format a shot, post the regular wrestling season. Failing to qualify for Rio, and the entire Narsingh scandal has increased his hunger to win a medal again, and that might be the reason why he didn’t respond to the offer as quickly.

The source also confirmed the fact the WWE is trying to sign a star like Sushil to make the WWE more of a mainstream entertainment staff in India. This will also garner more attention from the Indian fanbase as stated by the source:
“The WWE are just impressed by the numbers in India and are looking at a representative from here, who can boost the stature and numbers of the show. They narrowed down on Sushil, from a 30-40 person shortlist. According to them, Sushil will be the next Kurt Angle.”
