This week’s WWE Raw was the post-Wrestlemania Backlash episode that brought together the fallouts from the bygone event. One of the big matches from the night that took place at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut featured Cody Rhodes getting a title shot against United States Champion Austin Theory. This was the first title match opportunity for the superstar since returning at Wrestlemania.
This title match on WWE Raw was a reward for The American Nightmare who just defeated Seth Rollins at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday, which was their rematch from WrestleMania 38. Rhodes won that match, too and he was pretty excited to claim his first US title win. However, that opportunity was taken away from him by interference by Rollins.
As the match was in progress on WWE Raw, Rhodes was in full control and about to put away Theory after hitting the Cody Cutter when Seth Rollins attacked him, forcing the referee to call for the match bell. Rhodes did win the match via disqualification but Theory remained the champion since titles don’t change hands via DQ.

Following the match on WWE Raw, Rollins continued beating Rhodes and sent him to the floor while fans chanted “you suck!” at him. The Messiah yelled some in Cody’s face and then delivered a Stomp on top of the announce table. The boos get louder in the arena as Rhodes fell to the floor and officials checked on him as he was laid out. Rollins kept on yelling before making his exit.

Cody Rhodes-Seth Rollins program continues on Raw
It appears that the ongoing feud between Rhodes and Rollins will continue on WWE Raw, for the time being. Next month, Hell in a Cell is coming up and the blow-off of the program could be happening between these two inside the Cell structure. WWE hasn’t confirmed anything about the same, as of this writing.
Interestingly though, Rhodes made the following comments following Backlash and hinted at the end of his feud against Rollins on WWE Raw but clearly, it’s not over, yet,
“After the match, I did the generic symbol for wanting the belt – because it’s real. That’s what I want. To be able to get two [wins] on him, I think we can walk away on this one. Seth is an amazing, amazing Superstar wrestler, I can’t wait to see what he does next. Whatever he does now, good luck.
I’m moving forward, I’m excited to see what that is – maybe the WWE Universe can tell me what’s next. I’m looking forward to it!”
