The Universal Title picture will be the sole focus on this week’s SmackDown that in turn could set up the main event match for Fastlane 2021 pay-per-view. An interesting situation would be addressed as the two WrestleMania opponents will have to team up at the upcoming pay-per-view when tonight’s show airs from the Tropicana Field in Tampa Bay, Florida.
Last week’s WWE SmackDown witnessed Daniel Bryan and Jey Uso fighting it out in the main event match with the stipulation that if Bryan defeated Jey, he would get another shot at WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns for the title at Fastlane on March 21. The match ended in a double count-out and hence Bryan never earned his title shot.
Later on Talking Smack, Bryan joined Kayla Braxton and Paul Heyman and apparently came up with a deal for Heyman. The Special Counsel for Roman Reigns said Bryan could get a rematch against Jey on this week’s SmackDown with the same title match stipulation. Bryan raised the stakes a bit and insisted that it should be a steel cage match.
Also, if he doesn’t win, he will acknowledge Reigns as his Tribal Chief. As the show progressed, Heyman received a text message from Reigns, accepting the stipulation and we can only guess that a steel cage match will be there on today’s SmackDown. WWE has also officially announced this match, a few hours ago.

WWE Smackdown Preview (05/03/21): Fastlane tag team match in the making?
In the meantime, WWE has also teased that Fastlane 2021 could also witness a possible Bryan and Edge vs. Reigns and Uso tag team match. Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville mentioned, last week that they had considered the tag team match as mentioned above. Edge and Reigns also mentioned the same in several backstage segments.
The storyline suggested that the tag team match could be nixed if Bryan defeats Uso on the SmackDown main event. But as mentioned above, the match ended in a Double Count Out and Bryan did not earn his Fastlane title shot, meaning that the tag match could still be happening, if not Bryan beats Uso inside the steel cage. But first, this gimmick match needs to be made, official.

The first match for WWE Fastlane 2021 PPV was officially declared where WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler will defend their titles against Bianca Belair and Smackdown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.
After last month’s Elimination Chamber, Banks and Belair are getting yet another chance to regain the titles. But it will be interesting to see whether the two challenges can work together as they are slated to compete in a WrestleMania title match. Plus, Belair will have to compete against Baszler in a singles contest.
Apollo Crews has been showing a completely new attitude, as of late who is trying to break into the Intercontinental Title picture. He has changed his gear to give some royal treatment to them. Last week, he defeated Shinsuke Nakamura via clean pinfall. Plus, he has taken out the IC Champion Big E with a vicious attack, a few weeks ago. Perhaps, this would set up E vs Crews in a rematch at Fastlane 2021 when tonight’s SmackDown goes on air from ThunderDome.
