The final night of WWE Smackdown from ThunderDome will take place this week that also marks the penultimate episode before Money in the Bank 2021. Two remaining spots from the blue brand for the Men’s MITB ladder match will be filled up on the show via two rematches from ongoing feuds. Also, the Universal Champion is expected to be back on the show set to happen from the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida.

Jimmy Uso came out by the end of last week’s SmackDown to call out his cousin Roman Reigns’ current rival Edge. Jimmy also told Edge that he didn’t need his cousin there because he could handle Edge all by himself. Jimmy kept on talking until came face to face with him. It was assumed to be a trap for Edge but it was not as Roman Reigns never showed up.

As a result, Edge attacked Jimmy by sending him shoulder-first into the post and then slammed him into the other post. Jimmy somehow stopped him with a huge superkick to the head, Edge delivered a big boot to drop him. He then speared Jimmy before applying a submission using a rod from a chair.

Edge is in no mood to stop before he got his one-on-one match against Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at Money in the Bank 2021. Two weeks ago, he already sent a message by spearing Roman Reigns following his return. Now WWE is promoting that the Universal Champion will be back on Smackdown, this week as he is expected to fire back at the Rated R Superstar and thereby sent back a message of his own.

WWE Smackdown Preview (09/07/21): MITB 2021 Qualifying Matches

Except for this main event storyline, Money in the Bank builds will be the full focus of Smackdown as two qualifiers are set for the show. In the first of them, Shinsuke Nakamura will collide against Baron Corbin. The two have been involved in a feud for quite some time over the King of the Ring crown which now belongs to Nakamura. It’ll be interesting to see whether Corbin can get back some honor to win this upcoming match.

In the other qualifier, Seth Rollins battles Cesaro in another rematch to continue the ongoing feud. Rollins originally intended to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at Money in the Bank. But with Edge stealing the opportunity, he will have to go through this match against Cesaro to get to the opportunistic MITB Ladder match. Rollins won the Hell in a Cell PPV match against Cesaro in June.

From the Women’s MITB ladder match, Carmella and Zelina Vega were handed their positions from the Smackdown division by Sonya Deville. Liv Morgan has been gunning for a spot as she defeated both of the qualifying superstars, consecutively. But for pushing reasons, Liv has been excluded from the fray. The hunt for an opportunity will continue for Liv as she appears on this week’s Smackdown from ThunderDome.
