Stone Cold’s appearance could boost up ticket-sales

In an update, Steve Austin’s reported match against Kevin Owens at WrestleMania 38 could be in jeopardy. That match might not take place, at all as Dave Meltzer stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that Austin hasn’t agreed to compete in the match. WWE is therefore expected to book Austin and Owens segment as a “confrontation.”

“The big thing was they wanted Vince and they wanted Austin because they’ve got a lot of tickets to sell, and Pat McAfee vs Austin Theory is not going to be selling a lot of tickets. And Steve Austin and Kevin Owens is, you know, they will have a confrontation, but it is not clear if that will be a match or not anymore. It’s essentially up to Austin at this point.

They want the match, they thought they had the match, and, you know, Steve, there’s a reason he hasn’t wrestled for 19 years. I just know that as of Friday he had not agreed to do the match even though it was on the books. Now, it’s on the books as a confrontation.” (transcription by Ringside News)

It was Dave Meltzer himself who mentioned on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE was working under the assumption that Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens could be happening at WrestleMania 38. It was also said to be a done deal at that point since WWE has also kicked off the storyline.

Kevin Owens has been cutting promo where he’s constantly been slamming Texas with verbal jabs. This has been a way to plant the seeds for a WrestleMania 38 match against the Texas Rattlesnake. However, we will have to wait and see whether the company will be able to book the match in reality.
