There’s a reason people regard Chris Gayle as the ‘Universe Boss’. Chris Gayle has been the epitome of power-hitting in modern-day cricket. He has almost created a mockery of any bowling line up that has bowled against him. If T20 cricket has grown so far across the globe, it is because of some ambassadors of the game who have done unthinkable. Chris Gayle is undoubtedly one among those ambassadors.
Gayle, who was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2013, slammed 13 boundaries and 17 sixes to score his century in just 30 balls and he ultimately ended his innings on 175 off 66 balls. The knock took RCB to a record-breaking 263/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Pune Warriors could only manage to score 133/9 with Gayle picking up two wickets for just five runs.

Now, Gayle has said that if AB de Villiers would not have played a brilliant cameo towards the end, Gayle would have ended up smashing a double hundred.
Chris Gayle Opens Up On His 175*
“I went inside and Ravi Rampaul was there in the team at that time as well. And I said to Rampaul, ‘That wicket outside is a real belter. We need to get at least 170-180 to actually give ourselves a chance at winning the game.’ Because the wicket was so good,” he stated.

“I was in that flow, that rhythm. Sometimes as a batsman you know that you cannot do anything wrong and that was one of the days. It was remarkable and so funny that I end up with 175 and I was saying that should be the team total. I could have got 200 if ABD didn’t come in and steal the show as well,” the Jamaican added.
De Villiers walked into bat with 22 balls left in the RCB innings. At that point, Chris Gayle was batting on 155 but ABD smashed 31 runs off eight balls with three fours and three sixes, keeping Gayle away from the strike.
Speculations Intensify Over IPL 2020 Future
IPL 2020 was scheduled to start from March 29, but due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCCI postponed it until April 15. As the nationwide lockdown extended in India, BCCI suspended IPL 2020 Indefinitely. Now, with the situation worsening, it seems a huge possibility that IPL stands nothing but cancelled this year.

On April 10, latest reports suggested that the BCCI is probing into the July window to conduct the IPL and it could take place behind closed doors. However, all hopes once again vanished as the BCCI suspended the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 indefinitely in the light of the coronavirus pandemic. With COVID-19 victims toll rising in India, cricket returning to India seems a possibility far from reality.
