Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is set to continue the president post of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). While Saturday (21st September) was the last day for filing nomination, Ganguly’s five-member CAB panel has no opposition. However, Ganguly can serve only a few months in his new presidential term as he will soon face the cooling-off period.
According to the order of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA), CAB will organise the 85th Annual General Meeting on 28th September.
Sourav Ganguly became the joint secretary of CAB in 2014. After the death of the former CAB president Jagmohan Dalmiya in September 2015, Ganguly became the CAB president. The former Indian captain will complete his six years as the office-bearer in July 2020. After then, Ganguly has to face the cooling-off period. So, the 47-year-old Sourav Ganguly is ten months away from facing the cooling-off period.
On the other hand, late Jagmohan Dalmiya’s son Abhishek Dalmiya will be the secretary of CAB. Earlier, he was the joint secretary of the CAB. So, Town Club’s Debabrata Das will be the only CAB joint secretary.
Meanwhile, Naresh Ojha will serve the vice-president role of CAB. Earlier, the CAB had five vice-presidents. Debasish Ganguly is the treasurer.
