WWE News: Bayley defeated top Raw superstar on Smackdown

The Smackdown women’s champion had a tough task in hand on last night’s show from Oklahoma. Bayley found herself in a first-time matchup against Lacey Evans who appeared on the show using the Wild Card Rule. The bad news for the champ was that Lacey got Charlotte Flair as her partner-in-crime who was all set to deliver an assault. However, things changed drastically by the end of the match as Lacey came up short and started a brawl with her companion.

Charlotte Flair was already sitting on the commentary table during this matchup on Smackdown trying to provide a distraction. Lacey Evans took full advantage of it and hit a modified Bronco Buster for a near fall! But Bayley hit a drop-kick followed by a clothesline to keep her out of the ring. She also hit Charlotte with a forearm outside the ring. An irate Flair tried to enter the ring and thereby distracted the referee who missed Lacey’s heel antics. Bayley countered the offenses with a roll-up to get the win. An irate Lacey attacked Flair after the match to end the segment in a massive brawl.

Bayley created history at Money in the Bank from multiple prospects. First and foremost, she won the women’s Money in the Bank briefcase on that night to cash in successfully. She pinned Charlotte Flair to become the new Smackdown women’s champion. This enlisted her name with a few superstars who cashed in the briefcase in the night of winning, itself.

Also, Bayley became the first Women’s Grand Slam winner of the WWE. She is the only one to capture the NXT, Raw and Smackdown women’s title alongside the women’s tag team championships. This is pretty interesting stats that WWE accepted mentioning her as women’s Triple Crown Champion. (sans the NXT title since it does not belong to the main roster)

However, these accolades are not going to help her in the long run if WWE does not book her in a strong storyline. Ever since Money in the Bank passed by, we did not get any hint of her first opponent over the Smackdown women’s championship. Without title defense, her strong status will get ruined. So we expected update in the title scenario on last night’s Smackdown. However, the storyline did not witness any progress. But the good thing is Baylay managed to retain her ongoing winning streak.
