WWE Smackdown Preview (21/05/19)-The New Day Reunites, Roman Reigns vs. Elias
Money in the Bank left a number of fallouts that Smackdown needs to address as early as possible. The next pay-per-view show in the calendar will take place on June 7th which means, there’s limited time available to build up the storylines. Starting with the WWE Championship picture, the reigning champion retained his title on this past Sunday. He is looking forward to having his celebration with Big E returning from an injury. But will Kevin Owens let that happen in a good way?
As for the Smackdown women’s division, we have a new champion going over from Becky Two Belts era. It is likely that a new feud will begin over the belt as we move forward. Roman Reigns appears on Smackdown with a bigger chip on his shoulder as a Money in the Bank rematch awaits him. All of these and more should be in-store when tonight’s show emanates from Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island.
WWE Champion Kofi Kingston successfully pinned Kevin Owens to retain his title at Money in the Bank. So he should have moved on to his future opponent starting from tonight. But the advertisements of WWE Super ShowDown have indicated that the rematch between these two may go down in Saudi Arabia.
Chances are less that WWE will start a new storyline featuring two new superstars to culminate a match within three weeks. This may not give them enough chance to have the proper buildups over the prestigious title. Hence, we should not be surprised if Owens continue to target Kofi when Smackdown airs. A reunion segment to take place for The New Day when Big E returns from a knee injury. We doubt whether Owens will be out to ruin the moment for the trio.
Bayley pulled off a shocker at Money in the Bank by winning the briefcase and cash it in on the same night to become new Smackdown women’s champion. It was Charlotte Flair whom she defeated in the process to reach the top of the mountain. But will The Queen let go of her, so easily? Certainly not.
The heel star of the Smackdown women’s division will surely complain about the way Bayley won the title. Thereby, she will try to earn a rematch over the title in due course. With Becky Lynch permanently on Raw, these two are likely to carry the blue brand’s female division, for now. WWE officially announced an interview segment for Bayley tonight where the rivalry between these two may continue.
Daniel Bryan and Rowan have won the Smackdown tag team championships, two weeks ago. But they are not having the momentums by their side, ever since then. Their night at Money in the Bank kick-off show ended in a bad away after digesting another loss to The Usos. This is likely to announce a future tag team title match between the two teams despite the two teams belonging to the different brands.
Roman Reigns had a quick win over Elias at Money in the Bank. As stated in a post-match interview, he wished to get a better opponent who could have lasted long in the ring with him. Apparently, that opponent will be waiting for him at WWE Super ShowDown. Online rumors suggested Shane McMahon is gearing up for his first match against The Big Dog, after weeks of rivalries. WWE Raw made this match official, last night leading up to another rematch on Smackdown.
As per WWE.com, Roman Reigns and Elias will be squaring off yet again on tonight’s episode,
“However, the score is far from settled between the two, as they will collide in a WWE Money in the Bank rematch on SmackDown LIVE. To make matters more complicated, Reigns’ WWE Super ShowDown opponent, Shane McMahon, will be in Elias’ corner. Who will walk out of SmackDown LIVE victorious?”
Also, Finn Balor and Andrade will re-engage in their feud to add momentums en route to their singles contest at Super ShowDown. This time around, the Demon is coming back to action to defend his Intercontinental Championship. So it will be interesting to see how Andrade prepares to deal with the mythical character.
