CSK Skipper MS Dhoni Lands In Chennai Before Indian Players’ Departure On August 13

CSK (Chennai Super Kings) skipper MS Dhoni landed in Chennai on Tuesday ahead of the departure of a group of players to the UAE, which will host the remainder of the Indian Premier League next month. A bunch of Indian players will travel to the UAE most likely on August 13, a top CSK official said.

With just a few weeks left for the IPL 2021 Phase 2, BCCI has given permission to the franchises to start heading to UAE after August 10. The MS Dhoni-led CSK franchise is looking to head over to Dubai next weekend. CSK has confirmed that the players and support staff will leave for Dubai on August 13. The CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has said that the team is looking to arrive in Dubai on August 14 or 15.

CSK Skipper MS Dhoni Lands In Chennai

It is notable that Chennai Super Kings usually starts practice a month or at least 15 days earlier as several players from the franchise are retired while some of them are yet to play in the international arena. Thus, the training helps them get in the groove and ensure they are on top of the opposition from the onset. They had previously started training in Chennai for a month ahead of the IPL 2021. The results showed for it as they won 5 out of 7 matches in the opening leg.

“Indian players in the team, whoever is available, will travel to UAE on August 13 in all likelihood,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told PTI.

Fans celebrated MS Dhoni’s arrival in Chennai on social media.

“Lion Day Entry,” CSK posted with a photo of Dhoni on its Twitter handle about the captain reaching the city. There will be no camp in Chennai before the CSK players fly out to the UAE, Viswanathan said.

The second half of the IPL 2021 will be held in UAE from September 19 after the tournament was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in its bubble.

The BCCI then decided to conduct the remaining matches in the UAE, which successfully hosted IPL 2020. CSK resumes its IPL campaign on September 19 with a match against Mumbai Indians. The MS Dhoni-led side was in the second spot with 10 points after seven games before the league was postponed due to a bio bubble breach.

CSK’s Three Key Foreign Players Are Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, And Faf du Plessis

The England all-rounder Moeen Ali was the star performer for the side during the first half of IPL 2021 and something similar is expected from him in the UAE leg too. CSK’s new No.3, Moeen Ali slammed 206 runs in six innings at an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 157.25. He also picked up five wickets and turned a couple of games on his own.

Sam Curran is a key all-rounder for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. The English all-rounder had a wonderful outing in the IPL 2020 edition and was one of the few positives for the side which had a forgettable campaign. In IPL 2020, Sam Curran scored 186 runs and also picked up 13 wickets in 14 innings.

Chennai Super Kings batting mainstay Faf du Plessis is the third leading run-getter in the IPL 2021 phase 1. The former South Africa skipper has amassed 320 runs in 7 innings at an average of 64.00, including 4 fifties. He is a vital cog in the batting lineup for CSK.

The platform laid by Faf du Plessis and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (196 runs at a strike rate of 128.94) eased the pressure on the middle order and went a long way enabling CSK to put up massive totals. Ambati Rayudu-136 runs, Ravindra Jadeja-131 runs, Suresh Raina-123 runs also were among runs.

Suresh Raina Wants CSK To Win IPL 2021 For MS Dhoni

Suresh Raina wants Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to end their title drought by winning the IPL 2021 trophy for MS Dhoni. The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) can be MS Dhoni’s last one with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) if the charismatic leader of the Yellow Brigade opts to call time on an illustrious T20 career at the age of 40.

Suresh Raina, who shares a good camaraderie with MS Dhoni, wants CSK to win its 4th IPL title under leadership in the 14th season of the cash-rich league. There is no denying that former Team India superstars MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina share an exemplary bond. The duo also retired from international cricket on the same day-15th August 2020.

Suresh Raina: CSK Having Extra Confidence From MS Dhoni’s Captaincy

From representing Team India together to winning multiple titles at CSK, Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni have been nothing but icons of the gentlemen’s game over the years. Nicknamed Chinna Thala, Suresh Raina played an instrumental role in CSK’s resurgence as the Yellow Brigade bounced back after recording their worst-ever finish last season in Suresh Raina’s absence.

With the 14th season of the cash-rich league being relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the left-hander is optimistic about CSK securing a podium finish in the 2021 edition of the T20 tournament.

The left-handed southpaw wants the Chennai franchise to end their trophy drought in the 2nd leg of the IPL 2021. Speaking on Star Sports show Cricket Connected, Suresh Raina talked about MS Dhoni’s contributions in rebuilding the crestfallen side ahead of the second leg of the 14th season.

“Hopefully, when we go to Dubai, we will have a camp and we can again win it for him. I think the way we were playing this year, we were having some extra confidence from his captaincy and he was enjoying each other’s success,” Raina said.

Suresh Raina was also pivotal in CSK’s dominance for close to 10 years with his street-smart and risk-free batting. Often coming in at number three, the southpaw would take the games away from the opposition. He has so far scored 5,491 runs in 195 innings(200 games) for CSK and Gujarat Lions averaging 33.07 and is 3rd highest run-scorer in IPL history. He managed 123 runs in 7 games in IPL 2021.

A couple of senior CSK players – Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh (now with KKR) – had pulled out of the tournament in IPL 2020 citing personal reasons. Their absence, especially, Suresh Raina not being with the team affected CSK’s batting a big time which resulted in CSK not reaching the playoffs for the first time in the IPL history.

Suresh Raina: Hopefully CSK Will Win IPL 2021 For MS Dhoni

Under MS Dhoni’s leadership, CSK has secured the 2nd spot in the IPL 2021 after playing seven matches. CSK is only behind table-toppers Delhi Capitals in the current IPL 2021 standings.

“He was giving freedom to all the players and having Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, and Ruturaj in the side, we had the momentum. Hopefully, we can do it again this year for MS,” Raina added.

MS Dhoni (BCCI/IPL)

The inclusion of Moeen Ali and the stability in their batting order played a massive role in CSK’s revival in IPL 2021. As both Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu hadn’t played any competitive cricket before the IPL 2021, MS Dhoni went with Moeen Ali at No.3. The move paid off well as the English all-rounder amassed 206 runs at an average of 34.33 and a strike rate of 157.25.

Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis, with 13 sixes each, have cleared the ropes on most occasions for CSK in IPL 2021. They are closely followed by Moeen Ali, who has hit 12 maximums thus far. Faf du Plessis continued from where he left in the UAE in 2020 scoring 320 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 145.45 including 4 fifties.

The platform laid by him and opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (196 runs at a strike rate of 128.94) eased the pressure on the middle order and went a long way enabling CSK to put up massive totals. Ambati Rayudu-136 runs, Ravindra Jadeja-131 runs, Suresh Raina-123 runs also were among runs.

MSK Prasad Opens Up On Arguments With Ravi Shastri And Virat Kohli During His Tenure As Chief Selector Till 2019 World Cup

MSK Prasad, whose stint as the BCCI chief selector came to an end after the 2019 World Cup, often faced questions regarding him being overshadowed by India captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri.

For a large part of his tenure as chief selector of the Indian cricket team, MSK Prasad brought several new prominent youngsters to Indian cricket – including the likes of all-rounder Hardik Pandya and dashing keeper Rishabh Pant, both of whom have proven to be match-winners for the team.

MSK Prasad Asked If There Was A Perception That He Was Too Humble In Front Of Ravi Shastri And Virat Kohli

In a recent interaction, MSK Prasad was once again asked about the perception that he was “too humble” in front of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri.

“There was a perception that you were too humble in front of someone like Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli. People can’t imagine how you could win arguments against such aggressive professionals?” MSK Prasad was asked in an interaction on cricket.com.

In response, the former India wicketkeeper-batsman revealed that he often engaged in arguments with both Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, but added that all of them are professionals and understand the role they needed to play for the benefit of the team.

“You ask them what kind of arguments we had. Sometimes, we didn’t want to see each other (after meetings) but the beauty of them is that the next morning when we would meet, they would recognize and acknowledge that there is (merit in the) point we made,” MSK Prasad revealed.

“I am a management student and know how to manage. People want me to blame someone publicly? Why should I do that because it is my family? I may like or dislike decisions even at home in my family but can I come out and say something publicly?” MSK Prasad added.

The 46-year-old was often criticized for his decisions as he was not an experienced campaigner on the international circuit. The wicketkeeper-batsman’s 23 international appearances included six Tests and 17 ODIs with a solitary half-century.

MSK Prasad: Just Because Indian Team Management Didn’t Have Differences Publicly Doesn’t Mean Succumbing To The Duo Of Virat Kohli And Ravi Shastri

India’s former chief selector MSK Prasad in a recent interaction revealed that he used to have arguments with skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri. MSK Prasad has often been criticized for the decisions he took during his tenure which includes picking Vijay Shankar over Ambati Rayudu in World Cup 2019 squad to Yuvraj Singh’s ouster after Champions Trophy 2017.

During MSK Prasad’s tenure, many young talents including Hardik Pandya and Rishabh Pant joined the competition in the senior team. Even, Jasprit Bumrah got the chance in the Test team following which he enjoyed success with the red-ball too.

“Virat and Ravi will tell you about that (how we used to have heated debates). Just because we didn’t have differences publicly doesn’t mean that we were succumbing to them. Who knows how we have convinced them on so many issues,” he signed off.

MSK Prasad did not reveal the details of the arguments but said that in the end, the two sides acknowledged the points each other made.

One very disturbing trend in his tenure was the lack of predictability in his selection pattern. There were haphazard chopping and changing of the squad, across formats, amid a few allegations that players were not informed of the reason behind their exclusions.

The first in his tenure was Karun Nair, the man who notched up 303 runs against England at home before he lost his spot in the Indian Test team and did not get a recall despite decent knocks in domestic cricket. Limited-overs cricket too witnessed the same in the buildup to India’s World Cup 2019 preparations.

Ambati Rayudu was constantly backed as India’s No.4 batsman for the tournament. And after a stretch of only 14 innings, Ambati Rayudu incurred a failure, against Australia at home, and he was eventually dropped from the ODI team. Vijay Shankar, who had only made his debut a few months back in January 2019, found his name on the World Cup list.

Faf du Plessis Compares Captaincy Styles Of Sarfaraz Ahmed, MS Dhoni And Virat Kohli

Faf du Plessis compared the captaincy styles of Sarfaraz Ahmed, MS Dhoni, and the current India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli.

It wasn’t too long ago that Faf du Plessis was on a run-scoring spree for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2021. With 320 runs from seven matches, he had peeled off four consecutive half-centuries for CSK before the tournament came to halt. Now, as he gets ready to play in the Pakistan Super League, his team Quetta Gladiators would be hoping the former South Africa captain to bat in the same groove as he did in the IPL.

Faf du Plessis Always Enjoyed Playing Under Different Leaders

From playing under MS Dhoni in the IPL, Faf du Plessis will now be playing in the leadership of former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Ahead of the resumption of the sixth season of the PSL from June 9, the opener sat down for an interview with Cricket Pakistan where he compared the captaincy styles of Sarfaraz Ahmed, MS Dhoni, and current India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli.

“Quite different… MS is quiet and reserved, does most of his things instinctively on the field. Sarfaraz is the opposite… almost like Virat. Always talking to the players, always to the bowlers, always very passionate about how he captains his team, and he shows it. So, there is no right and wrong way. These are just two different styles,” du Plessis said.

The Quetta Gladiators had a tough time in PSL 2021 before the tournament was suspended over bio-bubble breaches, with four losses in five matches. The Quetta Gladiators began PSL 2021 with a seven-wicket defeat to the Karachi Kings. They subsequently also lost to the Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, and Islamabad United before opening their account with a win over the Multan Sultans.

Faf du Plessis Pretty Passionate About Leadership Himself

Faf du Plessis had a reasonable record as the captain himself. He led South Africa in 36 Tests, winning 18 and losing 15. In the 76 matches (T20Is and ODIs combined) under Faf du Plessis, South Africa won 51 and lost 23 games. At Quetta Gladiators, even though Sarfaraz Ahmed will be leading the team, Faf du Plessis is more than happy to give his inputs if and when needed.

“He’s obviously been captain of Pakistan and has got the best out of players. I’ve always enjoyed playing under different leaders just to see how they go about their business because I also am pretty passionate about leadership myself so it’s nice for me to be able to see how he does things and offer my inputs if he wants to take it,” added du Plessis.

Faf du Plessis continued from where he left in the UAE in 2020 scoring 320 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 145.45 including 4 fifties. He had scored 449 runs averaging 40.81 in 13 games and was the top run-getter for CSK in their otherwise dismal season where they failed to qualify for playoffs for the first time in the IPL history.

Ambati Rayudu and Faf du Plessis, with 13 sixes each, have cleared the ropes on most occasions for CSK in IPL 2021. They are closely followed by Moeen Ali, who has hit 12 maximums thus far. This is in sharp contrast to IPL 2020 where the 14 sixes hit by Faf du Plessis, the most by a CSK batsman, came in almost double the matches.

South African star Faf du Plessis would be up in the second session of the sixth edition of the PSL. The resumed session of PSL 2021 would be taking place in Abu Dhabi instead of Pakistan due to the COVID-19 situation.

Deepak Chahar Recalled Tough Time Experienced By CSK In IPL 2020 At UAE

Deepak Chahar, CSK pacer recalled the dismal season last year and spoke about the tough time they had experienced in IPL 2020, in a recent interview with Sportskeeda.

CSK failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in the history of the tournament in IPL 2020. Chennai Super Kings though performed brilliantly in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The MS Dhoni-led side finished second on the points table with 5 wins from 7 seven games before the tournament came to an abrupt halt.

Deepak Chahar: Situation Before The Start Of The IPL 2020 Was Really Bad For CSK

It was a stunning comeback from Chennai after what they went through last year in the UAE. IPL 2020 will go down in the history as the worst season for MS Dhoni-led CSK. The three-time champions looked like minnows in a big pool of cricket giants. They struggled to get runs, bowl well, and overall, they found it difficult to win matches. As a result, they failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time in the history of the tournament.

“The situation before the start of the IPL 2020 season was really bad for us. There are a lot of players in our squad who don’t play regularly and hence we needed practice. We wanted to go to Dubai early but couldn’t get permission. So, we put a small 5–6-day camp in Chennai,” said Deepak Chahar who picked 20 scalps(12 and 8) in last 2 seasons.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

“I was then tested COVID positive and had to quarantine myself for 16-17 days. Ruturaj Gaikwad also tested positive and had to quarantine himself for 28 days. If you are a bowler and you have had COVID-19 then it is really difficult to recover within 20-25 days and get back to your best,” Deepak Chahar was quoted as saying.

Having performed well in India’s domestic cricket, 23-year-old Ruturaj Gaikwad was expected to have a good outing for CSK but he managed to score just 5 runs which included two ducks leading to his axe. After being recalled later, Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a hat-trick of half-centuries in the last three games to amass 204 runs averaging 51 in 6 games. He scored unbeaten 65, 72 and unbeaten 62 as CSK won the last 3 games but finished 7th in IPL 2020.

Deepak Chahar: Suresh Raina’s Absence Weakened CSK’s Batting

A couple of senior CSK players – Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh (now with KKR) – had pulled out of the tournament citing personal reasons. Their absence, especially, Suresh Raina not being with the team affected CSK’s batting a big time. Deepak Chahar said that Suresh Raina’s return helped it find balance in the tournament which led to their improved performance in IPL 2021.

Suresh Raina

“Even Raina Bhai wasn’t there and his absence did weaken our batting. His absence affected the balance of the squad, something which was restored in the IPL 2021 season when he returned,” Chahar said.

Moeen Ali To Play Birmingham League After Suspension Of IPL 2021

Moeen Ali, England all-rounder is set to return to action on Saturday when he makes an appearance in the Birmingham League for West Bromwich Dartmouth (WBD) against Walsall, after the suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Moeen Ali Received Approval From The England Team Management To Play For WBD

Moeen Ali, who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, received approval from the England team management to play for WBD, according to cricinfo.com. He had recently returned home from India. The all-rounder will be joined at the club by his brother, Omar Ali, and cousin Kabir Ali, a former England pace bowler. Another cousin, Ismail Mohammed, also plays for the side.

Moeen Ali’s elder brother, Kadeer Ali, is the regular captain of the club but the former Gloucestershire and Worcestershire batsman is currently coaching the Worcestershire first team. In Kadeer Ali’s absence, Kabir Ali will captain the side. Kabir Ali played one Test against South Africa at Headingley in 2003, and 14 ODIs for England, picking up 20 wickets at an average of 34.10.

Ashley Giles: ECB Will Rest Some Of Their Players After Test Series Versus India As England Has A Hectic Schedule With Bangladesh, Pakistan Limited Overs Tour Before T20I WC 2021 And Ashes

Meanwhile, several England cricketers, who have returned from the IPL, are likely to be a part of the county action in the round of games starting on June 3. The England and Wales Cricket Board will take a decision on the players in the coming days. It is worth mentioning that a total of 14 English cricketers were part of IPL 2021 before the tournament was postponed after players and support staff from multiple franchises tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this month.

Former England spinner and ECB Director of Cricket for men’s team Ashley Giles, who had hinted against the possibility of centrally contracted English players playing in the second phase of IPL 2021, has once again voiced a practical opinion keeping the best interests of English cricket in mind.

Speaking to the reporters, he revealed that ECB will rest some of their players after a five-match Test series against India. It is worth mentioning that England is scheduled to play white-ball cricket in Bangladesh and Pakistan before the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2021. Having said that, he made it a point to repeat his words on the lines of what he had said before with respect to not exhaust the English players before the world event and Ashes 2021-22.

Barring Sam Billings and Liam Livingstone, all the other 12 players are ECB centrally contracted players. Assuming that IPL 2021 will go ahead without English players, Rajasthan Royals (Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer), Chennai Super Kings (Sam Curran and Moeen Ali), and Kolkata Knight Riders (Eoin Morgan – captain) will be the most affected franchises.

Vijay Shankar Opens Up On His Relationship With Ambati Rayudu

Vijay Shankar talks about his relationship with Ambati Rayudu. A couple of years ago, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s all-rounder Vijay Shankar was expected to become a significant part of India’s limited-overs team. Owing to his all-around abilities, he was selected ahead of Ambati Rayudu for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

However, a toe injury meant Vijay Shankar got ruled out of the tournament after playing just three games. Since then, he has not been picked in the national team despite India’s dearth of fast bowling all-rounders.

Vijay Shankar Didn’t Do Anything Bad After The 3D Tweet By Ambati Rayudu Playing 3 Games For India

In a recent interaction, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder opened up about many things, including his comeback plans, online trolling, and also Ambati Rayudu’s infamous tweet. As mentioned, Vijay Shankar made it to India’s World Cup squad ahead of Ambati Rayudu, who was expected to bat at number four for the Men in Blue.

After the team for the gala tournament was announced, a disgruntled Rayudu tweeted: “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup.”

He apparently took a dig at Vijay Shankar’s selection, who was deemed as a three-dimensional player. Since then, the 3D tag has been attached to Vijay Shankar.

Time and again, social media users have used this tag to troll Vijay Shankar whenever the all-rounder endured a poor outing in the Indian Premier League or domestic matches. On being asked if the 3D tag frustrates him, Vijay Shankar said that people troll him without understanding his role in the side.

“I have no connection to that. They gave me a tag randomly and made it viral. But after that tweet, I played three games for India (World Cup) and did decently. I didn’t do anything bad. Even in the IPL, my batting orders have been different.

“A lot of people compare me to Rayudu, but the batting orders and conditions we play in are different.”

“It’s okay to even compare, but at least see which slots we’re batting in. A lot of people don’t know that. They don’t see that, and they just want to enjoy in social media at my expense,” Vijay Shankar said in an interaction with News18.

Vijay Shankar has played 12 ODIs and 9 T20Is managing 324 runs in both formats combined besides picking 9 wickets combined.

Vijay Shankar: There’s No Personal Issues And Grudge Against Ambati Rayudu

Vijay Shankar also said that he has no grudges with Ambati Rayudu and the two cricketers are in good talking terms.

“We talk well when we meet. There’s no personal issue between us. It just so happened that his tweet became viral. I definitely don’t have any grudge against Rayudu. Even when I met him recently in Delhi, we had a super conversation,” the 30-year-old asserted.

Earlier, after the original 15-member Indian squad selection for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, AmbatiRayudu tweeted “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup” in reaction to the “three-dimensional” cricketer comment of then chairman of the selection committee MSK Prasad for the all-rounder Vijay Shankar. In that period, the duo was fighting for a spot in the Indian squad for that tournament.

Ambati Rayudu disappointed in his last international series (ODI series against Australia at home in March 2019) and he also failed to impress in the IPL 2019.

Due to those weak performances, he was not included in the Indian 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Although he was in the stand-by squad for that tournament, he was ignored during that tournament.

In July 2019, Ambati Rayudu surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket. However, later in August 2019, he changed his mind and announced his return to the game. After his return to the game, Ambati Rayudu served for Hyderabad in the domestic List A and T20 tournaments.

He also played IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 for CSK. He scored 359 runs in 12 games in IPL 2020 averaging a decent 39.88 and had scored 136 runs in 7 games this season with a staggering strike rate of exactly 200, averaging 34.

Aakash Chopra Surprised At CSK’s Turnaround In IPL 2021

Aakash Chopra has expressed surprise at the Chennai Super Kings‘ (CSK) massive turnaround in IPL 2021. CSK was the first team to get knocked out of the race for a playoff berth in IPL 2020 and eventually finished seventh in the standings. But the MS Dhoni-led outfit staged a grand comeback in IPL 2021 and was placed second in the points table when the tournament was suspended.

Aakash Chopra Points Out Vast Difference Between IPL 2020 And IPL 2021 And Can’t Believe CSK’s Transformation

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that CSK was an invigorated lot in IPL 2021. The cricketer-turned-commentator acknowledged that he did not believe the franchise would be able to stage such a turnaround within a year.

“There was a vast difference between IPL 2020 and IPL 2021. CSK played like a Dad’s Army in 2020 and everyone got the superpowers as soon as 2021 came. The kings had become the Super Kings. Such a transformation can happen in six months, I and a lot of my friends had not thought so. But this team showed that,” said Aakash Chopra.

Aakash Chopra Picked CSK’s Big Six Hitting Prowess As A Reason Behind Their Turnaround In IPL 2021 From IPL 2020

Aakash Chopra picked CSK’s improved big-hitting prowess as one of the primary reasons behind their turnaround this season.

“The first thing that has changed for CSK is their six-hitting ability. If we talk about 2020, it is not that they played only in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, they played in Sharjah as well but were not hitting the sixes,” Aakash Chopra added.

The former Indian batsman admitted he did not believe CSK would make the playoffs in IPL 2021 due to a lack of six-hitting ability in their line-up.

“When the first encounters were in the small Wankhede ground and after that they went to Delhi, it was in our mind that Chennai will be stuck because who will hit the sixes. I thought this team will not qualify because of this reason,” Aakash Chopra further maintained.

Aakash Chopra signed off by sharing some numbers to substantiate his point.

“If you talk about 2020, CSK was second-last in terms of the number of sixes. They hit a total of 75 sixes and were taking 22 balls to hit a six while the Mumbai Indians were hitting a six every 13.2 balls and hit 137 in total. This year they have played only seven encounters, and have hit 62 sixes, with a six every 13.1 balls,” concluded Aakash Chopra.

CSK hit the most sixes(62) this season before IPL 2021 was suspended midway due to rising Covid-19 cases in India.

One Saw A Change In Captaincy Tactics Of MS Dhoni From IPL 2020, Says Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra said that there was a massive change in MS Dhoni’s captaincy tactics in IPL 2021 as compared to last year’s edition of the league.

MS Dhoni seemed to be under pressure last season in IPL 2020, with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsmen not firing as per expectations and unable to post substantial scores. The talismanic skipper was back to his calm and collected self in IPL 2021, as his team delivered the goods to be placed 2nd before IPL 2021 was postponed for rising Covid-19 cases.

Aakash Chopra Liked MS Dhoni’s Captaincy In IPL 2021 Which Was Changed Compared To IPL 2020 7 Indians Played Continuously Unlike Last Season

While reviewing CSK’s performance in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra picked MS Dhoni’s astute leadership as one of the reasons for the franchise’s turnaround.

“One thing I liked a lot was MS Dhoni’s captaincy. We could see a change in his captaincy from last year to this year. Last year we saw Dhoni, he had only five bowlers at the start and he made changes quickly,” said Chopra.

The cricketer-turned-commentator pointed out that MS Dhoni has played the same seven Indian players in all encounters of IPL 2021 thus far.

“Ruturaj didn’t score runs and he was dropped. Narayan Jagadeesan was dropped, players were getting dropped very quickly. But this time in seven encounters, seven Indians played continuously. He did not change a single Indian player,” observed Chopra.

CSK had one of the most consistent batting line-ups in the tournament. With six of their batsmen scoring half-centuries, they didn’t rely on anyone in particular. Before IPL 2021 was suspended last week, CSK was placed second with 10 points and a net run rate of +1.263 – the highest among all teams.

IPL 2020 was a season the Chennai Super Kings brigade would want to forget in a hurry. For the first time in the history of the tournament and in all the editions till then that CSK had played (11), the MS Dhoni-led side failed to make the cut for the play-offs.

Aakash Chopra: Overseas Changes Were Only Injury Related

Aakash Chopra highlighted even the overseas changes were injury-forced and to maintain the balance of the line-up.

“The overseas changes were only injury related. Moeen Ali got injured, so he got Dwayne Bravo to get an all-rounder. He also thought of playing a spinner as Moeen Ali’s spin will not be there,” added Chopra.

CSK has used just 13 players in the seven matches they have played in IPL 2021 to date. Imran Tahir was brought into the playing XI when Moeen Ali had to miss an encounter due to injury, while Dwayne Bravo and Lungi Ngidi played four and three matches respectively.

Aakash Chopra signed off by stating that consistency in selection showed MS Dhoni’s belief in his players.

“The tactical changes were absolutely fine but MS Dhoni not making the changes shows the confidence he had. It is because of this CSK and MS Dhoni are special, they are not trigger-happy, they give time and keep faith in their selections. Because of this they don’t find but make players,” concluded Chopra.

Many players have credited MS Dhoni for bringing out the best in them. A case in point is Deepak Chahar, who has acknowledged the CSK skipper’s role in his development as a death bowler.

Moeen Ali was a revelation with the bat at number three as he scored a useful 206 runs at a strike rate of 157.25. Ambati Rayudu-136 runs, Ravindra Jadeja-131 runs, Suresh Raina-123 runs also were among runs. Among the CSK bowlers, Sam Curran(9), Deepak Chahar (8), Ravindra Jadeja (6), Moeen Ali (5), and Lungi Ngidi(5) were among the wickets. Deepak Chahar twice took 4 wicket hauls.

Parthiv Patel Credits MS Dhoni For Handling CSK In A Remarkable Manner

Parthiv Patel, former Indian and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player, credited skipper MS Dhoni for handling the team in a remarkable manner.

MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK), made a strong comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Though they began their campaign with a loss against Delhi Capitals, the three-time champions were quick enough to make it to the top half of the IPL 2021 points table and consolidated their position with back-to-back wins.

Parthiv Patel: It Was Remarkable To See The Way MS Dhoni Handled CSK

CSK had one of the most consistent batting line-ups in the tournament. With six of their batsmen scoring half-centuries, they didn’t rely on anyone in particular. Before the tournament was suspended last week, CSK was placed second with 10 points and a net run rate of +1.263 – the highest among all teams.

Former Indian and CSK player Parthiv Patel credited skipper MS Dhoni for handling the team in a remarkable manner. While speaking to the Star Sports network, the cricketer-turned-commentator said that a ‘strong captain’ is always needed if a team wants to make a ‘comeback’.

“I had no doubts about it. CSK was in my top four even before the tournament started. But I thought the way MS Dhoni handled the team, it was remarkable. When you have to make a comeback, you need a strong captain,” said Parthiv Patel.

IPL 2020 was a season the Chennai Super Kings brigade would want to forget in a hurry. For the first time in the history of the tournament and in all the editions till then that CSK had played (11), the MS Dhoni-led side failed to make the cut for the play-offs. In fact, the men in yellow were the first ones to be eliminated from the play-off berth.

IPL 2021 however saw a reversal of fortunes as they are 2nd in the points table currently with 10 points from only 7 games winning 5 and losing 2 against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians. They played a brand of attacking and aggressive cricket which was missing from their campaign last year.

Parthiv Patel: MS Dhoni Decided Batting Line-up By Keeping Players Form In Mind

Parthiv Patel further highlighted the way MS Dhoni decided his batting line-up, by keeping the form of his players in mind.

“Everyone thought Suresh Raina will bat at No.3 but it was Moeen Ali. He knew what changes he needed to do. Everyone was thinking that MS Dhoni will come and bat at No.4 or No.5. He took a backseat, he knew that there are guys who are batting well and they should get more number of overs,” Parthiv Patel said.
