WWE Smackdown Preview (25/10/19): Lesnar-Velasquez, Flair-Hogan, Crown Jewel Hypes

WWE is promoting this week’s episode of SmackDown as a one-off show to take place on FS1 instead of FOX due to the MLB coverage. Meanwhile, it marks the final time that the blue brand airs a show before WWE Crown Jewel set in Saudi Arabia.

Bad news on FOX airing SmackDown

So there will be major hype-ups for the upcoming PPV on tonight’s show. WWE has already confirmed the headliner segment as well as multiple matches for as they want to pull up the viewership by all means.

Cain Velasquez and Brock Lesnar will be under one roof before their clash at Crown Jewel for a confrontation segment. The team members for Team Ric Flair and Team Hulk Hogan will be present on the show through Miz TV alongside the team coaches.

5 names who’d miss Crown Jewel

Two big matches will take place on the show where Nikki Cross takes on Mandy Rose and The New Day competes against for Raw tag team champions. These and more will be on SmackDown that takes place at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

As mentioned earlier, a mega confrontation will be the headliner of tonight’s episode. Just six nights before their showdown for the WWE Title Match at Crown Jewel, Brock Lesnar, and Cain Velasquez will be under the same roof on SmackDown.

Spoiler from Lesnar vs. Velasquez

Paul Heyman and Rey Mysterio will accompany their respective clients to the ring in a meeting that should get out of hands. Considering the history of these two former UFC heavyweights, they are not likely to consist of themselves within just verbal encounters. So we expect a huge fight to break out on the show.

A special edition of Miz TV is official for SmackDown that will hype up the tag team match set for WWE Crown Jewel. Legendary Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan will be appearing with their respective team members from the blue brand.

Hogan’s team captain Roman Reigns, as well as Shorty G and Ali, will join him whereas Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and King Corbin will be appearing by the side of Ric Flair. Verbal wars will go down during this segment that may produce a tag team contest to give us a preview of things to come on October 31st.

Why team Flair vs. Team Hogan is happening?

The New Day will take on former tag team champions Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode ahead of largest Tag Team Turmoil Match at Crown Jewel. We should note that Xavier Woods can’t compete at this point due to his Achilles injury.

Hence, Kofi Kingston and Big E will be in action against one of the newest tag teams on the SmackDown roster. Whichever team picks up the win will have momentums on their side heading into the historic contest in Saudi Arabia.

Another big match set for SmackDown will feature the current number one contender for the women’s championship, Nikki Cross against Mandy Rose. Here’s a short preview of things to expect during the contest, courtesy of,

“Nikki Cross is on the rise, but Mandy Rose wants to let the WWE Universe know that she is the one who truly reigns supreme over the SmackDown Women’s division. The Golden Goddess won’t be standing alone, as Sonya Deville will be ringside in support of her Fire & Desire teammate.”

At this point, Cross is looking forward to gaining some momentums on her side before challenging Bayley for the SmackDown women’s championship. Hence, there are the least doubts about her picking up the win.

5 Regular Superstars Who Won’t Perform At WWE Crown Jewel

We have noted earlier in reports that not every WWE superstar is thrilled about heading to Saudi Arabia and get a big fat paycheck. Sure, they are having an overwhelming amount written on them but sometimes that’s not all for the big league players.

The Undertaker missing Crown Jewel

Backlash is evident when you regularly visit the kingdom surrounding controversies. The tradition continues with the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV as some of the top superstars denied to head back to the country.

Triple H not coming back to action

As per the reports of, there are five names from the active roster who will not be performing at 2019 Crown Jewel. You may have a look at them and the potential reasons behind their absence from the October event.

5 Regular Superstars Who Won’t Perform At WWE Crown Jewel 1

Aleister Black

The former WWE NXT Champion is one of the fresh faces on Monday Night Raw following WWE Draft. The current executive director of the show, Paul Heyman is said to be quite high on him.

But for now, Aleister Black will have to be off from an active storyline due to the fact that WWE won’t allow him to compete in Crown Jewel.

The reason why he might not be there is that his body is completely covered with tattoos. His in-ring gear doesn’t hide them as he just wears a trunk to the ring.

Also, he is known Satanist by religion that may not suit well with the Saudi Arabia crowd. The older generation does not take these things in a good manner and hence WWE does not want to bring unnecessary controversy around Crown Jewel regarding him.

5 Regular Superstars Who Won’t Perform At WWE Crown Jewel 2

Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars that WWE roster possesses, right now. This makes his absence from Crown Jewel a surprising one considering that WWE already announced him for an appearance.

The Planet’s Champion is not intending to head back to the middle-east region due to the fact that he wants to avoid the political problems around Saudi Arabia. It is the same reason why he refused to work at last year’s Crown Jewel, too.

His last appearance in Saudi Arabia was at The Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018 where he set an all-time record by staying in a Rumble match for the longest time.

5 Regular Superstars Who Won’t Perform At WWE Crown Jewel 3

Kevin Owens

One of the top babyface superstars of WWE Raw roster is Kevin Owens who also refused to work in WWE Crown Jewel 2019. His family does not want him to visit Saudi Arabia, probably owing to the fact that the country has an unstable political situation.

Also, the fact that Saudi officials do not allow his best friend Sami Zayn to work in their shows also worked as a factor behind his absence. He also made one last appearance in Saudi Arabia back at The Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018.

5 Regular Superstars Who Won’t Perform At WWE Crown Jewel 4

Sami Zayn

The SmackDown resident superstar, Sami Zayn is one constant name who has never competed in the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia. The sports authority of the country is not fond of his Syrian roots.

Saudi and Syria share a bitter relationship for several years now. So the hosts of Crown Jewel do not want to make the situation worse by bringing Zayn for an appearance.

WWE also released a statement regarding the situation, “WWE is committed to embracing individuals from all backgrounds while respecting local customs and cultural differences around the world.”

Zayn is currently acting as the manager of Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. But he won’t be there for the scheduled match for The Artist who will participate in a Team Flair vs. Team Hogan tag team contest.

5 Regular Superstars Who Won’t Perform At WWE Crown Jewel 5

The entire women’s division

Perhaps the biggest controversy surrounding the Saudi Arabia events revolves around the women superstars. Despite in a progressive era like this where the female names have competed in Wrestlemania 35 main event, Crown Jewel won’t allow them on the card.

It marks the 4th Saudi pay-per-view in a row sans the female athletes. There are certain rigidities when it comes to female sportspersons performing in front of a live audience in the Kingdom.

Bliss and Natalya in Saudi Arabia

The Prince of Saudi Arabia is working on giving women their rights which is a slow process. WWE tried to host a match featuring the women at Super ShowDown back in June but the officials denied their request.

We hope someday the Saudi officials will take this revolutionary step and give one more reason to the fans to witness PPVs like Crown Jewel.

Huge Battle Royal And New Title Match Announced For WWE Crown Jewel

WWE Crown Jewel is shaping up to be a huge pay-per-view event by all means as per the current match card. Mainstream names like Cain Velasquez and Tyson Fury will be special attractions on the show.

Also, there will be the largest tag team turmoil match alongside a Falls Count Anywhere Universal Championship match. Now two more matches are official for the October 31st show.

CM Punk intends to have a return, Triple H responds

Ambrose & Rollins trade shots at each other

Rumors of a multi-player match at Crown Jewel came true with official confirmations. A 20-Man Battle Royal will take place at the PPV event which may become the opener of the show. The winner of this match will then challenge WWE United States Champion AJ Styles for the mid-card title later that night.

There’s no update to date on the 20 Superstars who will be participating in the Battle Royal. But we expect to receive updates on this matchup in due course.

The next episodes of Monday Night Raw and SmackDown are going to be the final one before the Crown Jewel PPV. Hence WWE must be declaring the final bunch of superstars who will get to perform in the global show.

Starting from April 2018, Crown Jewel will be the overall fourth global PPV show to be hosted by WWE in Saudi Arabia. It will take place on Halloween night that is on Thursday, October 31st, from the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE News: Hulk Hogan Campaigning To Get One Last Retirement Match In WWE

Could ‘Hulkamania’ be running wild on everybody in the WWE, once again? Probably, YES, considering the latest happenings. Hulk Hogan is back in the company for the 2nd edition of Crown Jewel PPV as he waits to lead his team to take on Team Ric Flair in a 5-on-5 traditional tag team elimination match. But most importantly, he is still rotting for that one last retirement match in the WWE that is due for a long time.

Team Hogan Vs. Team Flair Announced For WWE Crown Jewel

How Will WWE Host Smackdown The Night After Crown Jewel PPV?

During a recent interview with the LA Times, Hulk Hogan said that he has contacted Vince McMahon for a possible retirement match,

“I talked to Vince, and I said I really don’t know if I could live with myself knowing my last match was with TNA. If I can get fixed, I pray I can have one more match. I told Vince, ‘When I get through this back surgery, I’m going to get in the best shape of my life and we’re going to talk about me having one last retirement match.’”

Slice Wrestling added to this saying that sources informed them that “nothing is even remotely close to happening, but Mr. McMahon will consider a Hogan retirement match for WrestleMania 36.” Whenever these kinds of events come closer, McMahon considers bringing back the legends to gain more attention. Plus, the next edition of Wrestlemania takes place in Tampa, Florida which is the home-state for Hulk Hogan. So there’s a huge possibility that the Hulkster may have his wishes fulfilled, next year.

Hulk Hogan has openly stated about officially retiring from in-ring competition after competing in one last match. But his growing age and the racism controversy are the main reasons why the WWE creative team will think twice before planning a match involving the legendary name. But if the match could generate enough revenue then Vince McMahon will gladly arrange this.

Slice Wrestling also added that one match that Vince McMahon may regret not producing ever and that is of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan. In recent times, Stone Cold also opened up considering one final match before hanging up the boots. So next year’s Wrestlemania could be the best opportunity that McMahon can possibly have to conduct this dream match.

How Will WWE Host Smackdown The Night After Crown Jewel PPV?

WWE will be hosting another Saudi Arabia event on October 31st which is bound to be a big show. Several superstars and legends will be performing on this global show as we are expecting another packed global pay-per-view event. Huge matches for that event have become official on this past episode of SmackDown that took place in Las Vegas. WWE officials announced two of the marquee matches for Crown Jewel through a mainstream kind of media press conference.

WWE Superstar Requests Release From The Company

As noted before SmackDown, Cain Velasquez will challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at the Saudi Arabia show. Also, things are going to be extremely physical when Braun Strowman gets into the ring with boxer Tyson Fury. These two matches featuring legit sports athletes have hyped up the second edition of Crown Jewel. But there could be a big schedule problem for the show as it will fall on Thursday night with SmackDown being held on Fridays.

Originally, Saudi Arabia shows take place on Friday nights. That slot had to go through a change after SmackDown has moved to Friday nights. With Crown Jewel shifting on Thursdays, the question remains how it is possible to host SmackDown, just one night after the PPV.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted that the SmackDown crew will have to do a lot of quick traveling by the end of October. Right after the Crown Jewel event ends, every one of the rosters will have to hop on a chartered jet. They will be flying straight to Buffalo, New York where SmackDown will take place, the very next day, (

“They are chartering a flight with the SmackDown crew and production crew from Riyadh to Buffalo (where SmackDown will be held) so it’ll be a regular show with the full SmackDown crew.”

There’s no wonder that the deal with Saudi Arabia produces the maximum amount of money for WWE. So they won’t be backing down to adjust the schedule of the superstars to make way for any Saudi PPVs in between weekly programs. However, when the show takes place and the superstars had to travel in a long plane route, they will indeed be exhausted. It will be interesting to see how WWE books that episode of SmackDown where the superstars will perform without any rest.

WWE News: Goldberg On Who He Wants To Wrestle Next In WWE

With the next Saudi Arabia event approaching closer, rumors are running high around what the main event could be. Legends are almost sure-shot to return on this global show to deliver some major matches. One of the speculated names is Goldberg who featured in the main event of the past Saudi Arabia show named Super ShowDown. He recently opened up on having another match with the desired opponent.

FOX Wants The Fiend Bray Wyatt On Smackdown

During a recent interview with Instinct Culture, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg revealed who he would like to face next in WWE. He picked two names, Roman Reigns or Braun Strowman as seen the below statements,

“God, who wouldn’t I like to face that I haven’t faced? You know Roman [Reigns] and Braun [Strowman] are two guys I’d like to test their metal a little bit. Georgia vs Georgia Tech, it’s kinda a built-in rivalry, but I’m good. I’m good. Whoever they throw in front of me I’ll decimate, you know. It’s all good.”

Backstage Update On Cain Velasquez’s WWE Deal & Debut Match

In case you don’t know, WWE earlier planned a championship match in Saudi Arabia between Roman Reigns and Goldberg. But the under-delivered performance by the legendary superstar at Super ShowDown might have forced the WWE to think twice.

WWE To Announce Two Huge Matches On Friday Night Smackdown Conference

WWE booked a dream match for the main event of the 1st 2019 edition of pay-per-view in Saudi Arabia. The Undertaker defeated Goldberg in the main event of this event named Super ShowDown in Jeddah, on Friday, June 7th. The buildup of the show happened mostly on this particular bout that did not live up to the hypes, at all.

Both the legends were clearly past their prime who could barely move inside that ring. Undertaker botched his pendant Tombstone Piledriver whereas Goldberg missed a Jackhammer. On both occasions they nearly broke each other’s necks causing fear of concussions. The finishing chokeslam was perhaps the worst in the career of the Phenome, to say the least. He performed at Extreme Rules 2019 to erase the memory where Goldberg competed at Summerslam with the same goal.

Revealed: The Undertaker To Return To In-Ring Action In WWE On THIS DATE

The next Saudi Arabia PPV is up in WWE schedule, next month. It will mark the return of Crown Jewel 2019 that takes place on October 31st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As always, this is going to be a global event comprising of superstars from past and present. Leading the pack will be none other than The Undertaker who is getting ready to be back in action.

Matt Hardy Reveals Whether The Hardy Boyz Will Be Back

Future Of Brock Lesnar Is Still Uncertain On WWE TV

Local advertisements for the second edition of Crown Jewel are out (through WWE MENA’s-Middle East and North Africa official website) around Saudi Arabia which confirms that a couple of WWE legends will appear on the show. The Undertaker and WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan are the two confirmed names for the event. The latter name is likely to host a special segment on the show whereas The Phenome will definitely be competing in his next match on the show.

Reason Why Kofi Kingston & Seth Rollins Will Drop Their WWE Championships

You may have a look at what the legends are stating in the released ads,

“Welcome to Riyadh season. Our signature event Crown Jewel will be a spectacle of historic proportions, bringing together WWE Superstars of the past and present.

Oh maniacs, I’m all pumped up jack. Well, you didn’t think, I would let all my maniacs celebrate the Riyadh season without the Hulkster, did you? Well, you better get ready, I’m bringing these 24-inch pythons to Riyadh for the WWE Crown Jewel on October 31st.”

Apart from the legendary names, WWE has booked several current WWE Raw and SmackDown roster members for Crown Jewel. It includes names like WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, Braun Strowman, Brock Lesnar, Rey Mysterio, WWE United States Champion AJ Styles, Big E, Xavier Woods, The Fiend Bray Wyatt, and Randy Orton.

Overall, Crown Jewel is going to be the WWE’s fourth event in Saudi Arabia, after The Greatest Royal Rumble, Crown Jewel 2018, and Super ShowDown. This year, there won’t be any more pay-per-view events in October except for the Saudi Arabia show, unlike last year. The next big PPV event in WWE calendar is going to be Survivor Series in November.

WWE started hosting events in Saudi Arabia from last year onwards. The middle eastern country signed a contract with the company that will be intact for 10 long years. It will bring two, yearly huge global events. The Undertaker has always been a part of these shows as the main-eventer. Last year, DX took on The Brothers of Destruction in the marquee match. It will be interesting to see which match WWE plans next as the headliner.

WWE News: Vince McMahon Not Willing To Release Former World Champion From WWE

Vince McMahon is the Boss in WWE where he gets what he wants when he wants. If it comes to not releasing superstars from their active contract, there are past examples where he had been strict than ever. In a recent scenario, he denied to let go Dolph Ziggler off the WWE roster even after his deal came to an end after the big match at Summerslam 2019.

WWE News: Details From Triple H 50th Birthdays Bash, Vince McMahon Dances

Vince McMahon Stepping Down From His WWE Creative Head Role

Dolph Ziggler returned to the WWE before Super ShowDown event in Saudi Arabia to get himself inserted into the WWE Championship picture. He attacked Kofi Kingston out of nowhere to get a shot at the prime title in the company. The feud continued in the Stomping Grounds PPV event, as well. Ziggler was unsuccessful to capture the title but continued appearing at Extreme Rules and Summerslam.

During this timespan, Dolph Ziggler acted as a jobber to the active roster member digesting a number of losses. The latest of them came against one of the all-time wrestling legends, Goldberg. The former WCW franchise player squashed him with several spears and jackhammers in a night which could have his last for the victim. But it did not go by that way since Vince McMahon was not willing.

WWE News: WWE And Vince McMahon Net Worth In 2019

According to, Vince McMahon and Dolph Ziggler had a deal where the latter one would return and work PPVs till Summerslam 2019. The Monday Night Raw after Summerslam should have been his final date according to the deal. But The Boss still is not willing to let go of the former world champion from the existing contract but rather he wants to extend it.

So it won’t be surprising that we will see the show-off continuing his annoying promos on upcoming shows and thereby jobbing to other superstars. The source added that Vince McMahon is refusing to release Dolph Ziggler from his contract and is open to just paying him the contracted money while he sits at home:

“On Monday prior to RAW, Dolph approached Vince McMahon to thank him, however, it was then that Vince told Dolph that he could not let him out of his deal and that he would ‘rather just pay him to stay home’.”

A big reason behind this could be that The Boss wants the veteran superstar around for upcoming fall where Smackdown moves to FOX. Plus, he could be a must-see for the next Saudi Arabia PPV which may happen in October. His current deal reportedly allows him to appear on global shows hosted in the middle-east country.

WWE News: Officials Want Goldberg To Wrestle Again In Saudi Arabia

WWE Universe had a complete bitter feeling about Goldberg following The Super ShowDown PPV event in June. He was about to deliver a dream match against The Undertaker in the Saudi Arabia event that turned out to be a nightmare for both the legends. Things went worse for the former WCW legend who knocked himself out hitting a ring post and thereby making the contest a total botch-feast.

Seth Rollins & Becky Lynch Officially An Engaged Couple

Thankfully, Goldberg was able to remove the bitter feeling of the fans in recent times by appearing in a program at Summerslam. He came back earning huge cheers from the fans to squash Dolph Ziggler within a few minutes. It must have been set up the way for more returns for the legendary superstars shortly. Even recent reports also suggested the same.

According to Brad Shepard, Saudi Arabia officials have requested WWE to book Goldberg for another PPV event. The next show in their country happens in October which means he may be part of another main event. This does not come as a surprise since the original deal back in May proposed that the WWE Hall of Famer would compete in multiple matches in Saudi Arabia even after the matchup against The Undertaker.

Here’s more from a carried report via on plans for Goldberg,

“According to The Dirty Sheets, WWE was said to be “all in” on Goldberg’s return (before The Undertaker match) and Goldberg agreed to work three consecutive WWE PPVs in Saudi Arabia for a total amount of $6 million.”

The next for Goldberg was always set for the October PPV in Saudi Arabia. He would have teamed up with “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns to take on the team of the “Best In The World” Shane McMahon and a partner of his choosing. Following this, the plan was to book a WWE Championship match between Goldberg and Roman Reigns at the May/June 2020 Saudi Arabia PPV. Any one of them could be the WWE Champion heading into this match.

With Smackdown moving into FOX Sports from October 4th onwards, there could be big changes into the set plans of Goldberg does return to work in more matches. A program featuring The Myth against the franchise player of the WWE could have been interesting. But it’s uncertain whether the feedback will be positive from the fans on this. We have to wait for sometimes to know more about this. Perhaps the big reunion on Smackdown 20th anniversary might shed some lights on the future planning.

WWE News: WWE Officials Wants The Undertaker Vs. Sting To Happen In Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia shows have already become infamous to bring back legends from the past. The Undertaker has been a constant performer ever since WWE started hosting global PPVs here from 2018. As the next edition comes closer, we now speculate to see a dream match that has never happened before this. Legendary Sting could return to the wrestling ring for his pending match against The Phenome.

First Championship Match Announced For Clash Of Champions PPV

The Undertaker To Stay With The WWE For Lifetime

The Undertaker To Perform In Two More Matches In 2019

As noted by The Dirty Sheets, WWE officials are looking forward to bring back Sting for one match only against The Undertaker. The former WCW franchise player was quite open about receiving this match for which he can come of retirement. WWE officials might have listened to his pledge and give one final try to hist the match. Check out more on this as carried in the report from,

“WWE wants to book is The Undertaker vs. Sting. WWE wants to book his dream match next year (most probably at a Saudi Arabia PPV) and are hoping to get Sting medically cleared for this bout. Sting (age 60) getting cleared at this point will be very difficult, but the hope is still there among WWE officials.”

In case you don’t know, Sting suffered the neck injury during his last match, which was against Seth Rollins back in 2015 at Night Of Champions PPV.

It’s no secret that Sting had to retire from in-ring competition due to that match. Or else, WWE could put him in some more dream matches once he arrived in the biggest pro-wrestling promotion in 2014. But those including the match against The Undertaker never happened due to the concussion he suffered, the very next year. But it looks like, WWE is interested to make the Undertaker vs. Sting match happen, at any cost.

The Undertaker has wrestled for a couple of times in 2019 after returning following Wrestlemania 35. Back at the Super ShowDown PPV in Saudi Arabia, he wrestled Goldberg in an encounter that was perhaps his worst encounter to date. But he later erased the bitter taste by teaming up with Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules and defeating Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre.

Rumors were running after this match that The Undertaker must be making an appearance at Summerslam, too. Drew McIntyre could have been his opponent after what went down between the two of them during the bygone feud. But WWE has not culminated this rivalry for some unknown reason. Rather, we will have to look forward to the next Saudi Arabia show where we can see The Deadman returning, next against Sting in a dream match.
