The first Indian-born female Superstar to be signed with WWE, Kavita Devi claims that she is still with the company denying last month’s reports of her release. An announcement came from WWE to declare a mass release from the NXT roster, similar to that of the main roster in April amid COVID-19 related budget cuts.
Alongside many other superstars, it was reported that Kavita Devi was one of the released employees by the WWE. But the former NXT Superstar is now claiming that news is false. She recently spoke with The Hindustan Times to clarify her status with the biggest professional wrestling promotion of the world after it was reported that she was among the NXT releases made back on May 19.
As per the Indian Superstar’s comments, it’s true that she has been back at home in India to deal with family issues, just like the earlier reports claimed. She has also admitted to recovering from an ACL injury. She then proceeded to mention that the WWE-release reports are not accurate. Rather, WWE is working with her on a new arrangement that allows her to be at home right now.

“I’ve read some of those reports, and they aren’t accurate,” Kavita Devi said. “I have been back at home in India since January. My husband contracted Covid earlier this year and I needed to be here with my family, I chose not to go back to America. Everyone at WWE has been incredibly supportive, I am filled with gratitude for everything they have done for me.”
“I have also had an ACL injury for over a year and have been unable to perform in the ring but WWE still supported me through all of that. They understand that India is where I need to be. We are working together on a new arrangement that allows me to be home, but still part of the WWE Universe.”
Kavita Devi will continue to be involved with WWE
Kavita Devi missed the WWE Superstar Spectacle taping back in January as her husband contracted with the coronavirus. Afterward, her mother-in-law passed away in early May. She added her involvement with WWE in the future will continue as the Indian market is very important, right now. Devi might continue to work as a WWE Ambassador, and scouting new talent, or helping with live events.
Originally a former TV presenter and powerlifter in India, Kavita Devi signed with WWE in October 2017, becoming the first female pro wrestler of Indian nationality to wrestle for the company. She worked the 2017 Mae Young Classic before signing a deal with the WWE, losing to Dakota Kai in the first round. Devi last competed at July 27, 2019, NXT house show in Ft. Pierce, Florida, losing to Io Shirai.
