Randy Orton is still going strong in the WWE even after spending two decades in the company. He may be shelved from television, right now but that may set him up for even a bigger match this summer during Summerslam 2022. If reports are to be believed then he may end up challenging Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns for the titles.
With that, Randy Orton will get one more shot to get closer to John Cena in terms of world championship reigns. Cena has sixteen reigns by his name while Orton is catching up to him with 14 by his name.
Throughout Randy Orton’s illustrious career, he’s been associated with his greatest rival, John Cena. The two men were discovered from the same batch in Ohio Valley Wrestling and they did make their debut in the same year 2002. Moving on, they have competed in countless matches against one another on the main roster. Due to their consistency, they have been often compared to one another in terms of their accomplishments.
WWE Smackdown: Randy Orton Stands Up For John Cena Against Roman Reigns
Fan often mistakes Randy Orton to be John Cena?
But it’s really strange to know that some of the WWE fans also think that Randy Orton is John Cena, himself. Orton’s wife, Kim Marie Orton revealed on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet show that “people constantly will see Randy and go, ‘Are you John Cena?’”
“It’s the weirdest thing,” she revealed. “I took him, first Halloween I met him, they came out with the Randy Orton mask, right? So he comes to upstate New York and I take him trick or treating. And we’re walking around and I’m like, ‘just throw the f*cking mask on, put a hoodie on, nobody will know who you are’ … All of a sudden, some kid stops in front of some lady’s house … and he goes, ‘Are you John Cena?’
“He lifted his mask up and he goes, ‘I get that a lot, kid.’ And he puts the mask back down.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)
As you can see, Randy Orton wasn’t surprised with the comments as he faced similar questions in the past from misled fans. But it’s really the weirdest thing to think of fans who can’t properly distinguish two of the top fans of the WWE in a proper way.
In a statistic provided by Cagematch, Randy Orton and John Cena have shared the ring in some capacity 336 times (in singles or tag team matches). 123 of those times, the two faced off each other in singles matches on television, at pay-per-views, or during live events.
The last time they shared the ring together in a one-on-one capacity was back in 2017 at a live event in New Mexico, while their final televised singles encounter took place on WWE SmackDown, that same year in February. On both those occasions, Cena won en route to Wrestlemania 33.
