To the excitement of the WWE Universe, Roman Reigns returned to action in the season premiere of Smackdown in early October. The expectation was that he was scheduled to compete in the two upcoming premium live events set for this month, Crown Jewel and Survivor Series.
But reports have already confirmed that Roman Reigns isn’t performing at Survivor Series which will be the final WWE premium live event of this year. Additionally, his scheduled match at Crown Jewel is expected to be the final match for the champion of this year as he’s heading into yet another hiatus.
WWE Royal Rumble 2024: Possible Winner Won’t Face Roman Reigns At Wrestlemania 40?
Roman Reigns set for final 2023 match at Crown Jewel
Ringside News was recently told by a tenured member of the creative team that, unless circumstances drastically change, Crown Jewel on November 4th will be the last time that Roman Reigns will wrestle in 2023. He has one last match planned against the fastest-rising superstar on Smackdown, LA Knight after which he won’t wrestle again until 2024.
It wasn’t stated when his match will be happening, but it’s possible to assume that WWE will book him in a match at the 2024 Royal Rumble event at Tropicana Field in late January but that’s a long way to go. If he misses Elimination Chamber, the next month then Wrestlemania 40 in April will be the next stop for him which again indicates the special creative space for him.
Roman Reigns treated as a special character on WWE TV
Roman Reigns has long been built as a specially protected character in the WWE as WWE replaced Brock Lesnar through him. His plans are treated very special within WWE where only a select number of people know the plans including himself and Paul Heyman. These special plans started an unbeatable title reign that eventually transitioned into an ultimate part-timer schedule.
Now, it appears that fans will have to wait until next year to see Roman Reigns wrestling in more selected matches if there are no drastic changes in his schedule. This kind of schedule for the top champion in the WWE started from April 2022 onward where he clinched both the WWE and Universal Championship to become an undisputed champion.
Despite being a dual champion in the WWE, Roman Reigns was awarded an exclusive schedule on WWE programming since last year’s spring and that exclusive deal is running in full force. Before returning for Crown Jewel, he already enjoyed a time off starting from Summerslam in August.
