The ongoing storyline over the Universal Championship held by Roman Reigns is becoming intriguing with each passing week. Brock Lesnar’s return to WWE television at Summerslam started this long-term angle which is being rumored to go all the way until Wrestlemania 38. With Paul Heyman by his side, the champion had all the momentums by his side.
But things have shifted in a huge way this week as Roman Reigns turned on Heyman. After weeks of tensions between the two mainly due to the surprise return of Lesnar, this was evident to happen, at one point. WWE is also going with long-term planning in this instance unlike many of their ongoing storylines on Raw or Smackdown.
WWE Day 1: Smackdown Wrestler To Help Roman Reigns Against Brock Lesnar
Ringside News asked around about the split between Roman Reigns and Heyman that happened, this past Friday night. That segment came after the champion took a week off television and Lesnar created a ruckus on Sami Zayn and his male nurses. The source has now informed that this break was actually planned for months.
WWE Smackdown: Roman Reigns Achieves Yet Another Big Milestone
Roman Reigns-Paul Heyman split was a long-time coming
The writing team was told that the closing segment of this past SmackDown from Chicago, Illinois was set to include some big “shifts,” but no specific information was given to them. This aligns with the general ongoing on the blue brand whereas “Roman, Brock, and Heyman keep their business tight with Vince McMahon.”
Additionally, the source also learned via a tenured member of the creative team that, “they’ve known for weeks because the scene in LA where Heyman snapped Brock into Beast Mode was described as ‘the turning point while Roman Reigns is away for a week’ so this was not a last-minute decision.”
As reported earlier, Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are booked for a multi-match series that began at WWE Crown Jewel 2021. The finish set things up for another bout at WWE Day 1 as Head of the Table’s story remains the best thing, over on Smackdown.
Meanwhile, the upcoming battle between Reigns and Lesnar may just end up in a controversial fashion to set up the next big encounter between the two top superstars. Wrestlemania 38 could be the next PPV card to see their clash, possibly at the main event segment.
