Roman Reigns is the reigning WWE Universal Champion who is undoubtedly the topmost superstar of the company, right now. Since after beginning his fifth overall world title reign, his work skills have proven to be excellent. With Paul Heyman by his side, the character work alongside in-ring skills has reached a whole new level.
With a massive heel turn, Roman Reigns managed to reinvent himself that was much-needed. For all these years, he was booed as a babyface. Now he can live up to those as a bonafide heel when the fans are back in WWE shows. As an in-ring performer and a TV character, he showed how things need to be done on TV. At least, he doesn’t have the fear of getting rejected by the WWE Universe when as a top babyface.

However, it doesn’t seem that the company has any long-term heel plan for Roman Reigns. He is the poster boy of the company for a long time and the creative team might just want to change his character whenever they feel like it.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE does have plans to turn Reigns back into a babyface despite him portraying the biggest heel character, right now.
“Roman Reigns and Kenny Omega are essentially the same characters in the sense that they are heels who are being groomed to be the top babyface star down the line of the promotion. AEW is at least trying to book in a way to make the matches exciting and WWE is trying to book Roman Reigns and tell you ‘eh it doesn’t matter, he’s gonna kill the guy.’”

As per the previous reports, the heel-turn for Roman Reigns will eventually set him up for a ‘babyface explosion’ down the road. This will happen, pretty organically rather than the previous times where WWE literally tried to force the fans into liking him.
No matter what, WWE remains pretty high on the Tribal Chief as he’s a true money-maker in the company. Vince McMahon wants to protect Roman Reigns at all costs and that is how things will go forward. There are strong rumors that a match against The Rock could happen which WWE is pushing forward. It’ll be interesting to see whether Reigns participates in it as a heel or a babyface.
